The apology by the ump and the replay. To take his side in a small way it looked a hell of a lot close at full speed.

As much as this sucks in every way, both teams (Galaraga and Joyce) handled it with class. There's no crying in baseball, Joyce!
Galaraga was presented with a new Corvette before their game today from Chevy and the Tigers...not a bad consolation prize.
Joyce is calling home plate today, and Galaraga brought the line-up card out to him prior to the game.

Both sides handled this situation as best as can be. I feel bad for both of the guys.

If they hadn't handled it so well, this would be a huge mess.
I think this may lead to seeing instant replay in baseball.

Yea we will see instant replay. They both did handle it well and I think it may turn out better for Galaraga than had he gotten it.

No it won't.
A corvette is nothing to a Major League Baseball player. It'd be like someone giving me a rod and reel. Yeah its nice, but I could go buy one if I wanted one.
What was taken from him was a chance to be one of only 21 people in the history of Major League Baseball to ever throw a Perfect Game. History.
Both sides did handle it with class, though. I feel sorry for the umpire.
But this isn't turning out better for the pitcher than if he'd have gotten the perfect game.

I'm not talking about the car, although his salary is prolly close to the min...which is still nice. I just think he will be remembered more for this. Not everyone is gonna remember Dallas Braden's perfect game, they will be more likely to remember Halliday's. However, Galaraga, instead of being 1 of 21 is now 1 of 1 as the only guy to have it taken away by a bad call on the last out. One may say he has the greatest perfect game ever cause he made 28 outs. Id rather have the pg and so would he but he will be remembered more for this I think.

There is no way you are going to convince me that having an ump steal a perfect game from you is going to be better for you than actually having the perfect game.
Also, this will be forgotten in a few days. Perfect games are remembered for the rest of history.
There will not be a spot in the history books for this. Baseball purists of the future will continue to know who threw all the perfect games, and will never know about this fiasco.

No I don't think its better than actually havikng a perfect game, but this situation isn't going to quickkly be forgotten its gonna be shown on replays more than perfect games over the next ten years.

Buerhle or however you spell it.
When was the last no hitter that was blown by a bad call?
My point is, you go down in history for throwing a perfect game. Not everyone will remember you , but you will be in the books forever. Being the victim of a bad call will be long forgotten in a couple of years. I bet in 1 year 99% of America will not remember this flub and in 20 NO ONE but those involved will.

I think it will be replayed all the time and brought up a lot. Especially if it leads to more instant replay.

has any flub ever been replayed over and over? Why do you think this one is different?
The only thing I can think of is the "tuck" rule, but even that never gets played anymore and not a single person in my class has ever heard of that game.
