Cause they were 10 years old when it happened. But they do replay it a lot. I see George Brett storming onto the field still. But the fact of the matter is there hasnt been such a poor call in such a big situation like this before. Maybe the baseball purist who can name all the perfect game winners will not be phased by this. But most fans arent purists and coundt name 4 of them.
Since your argument was against your students never hearing of the tuck rule game, ask them to name you 3 pitchers with a perfect game.

You have to remember this guy will be up for arbitration in not to long. Having thrown a perfect game would help this guy get more money.

I haven't seen George Brett in at least 10 years.
Also, haven't seen the tuck rule in a few years.
That is my point, the kids don't know the pitchers that have thrown a perfect game, but those guys are forever enshrined.

All I could name are Halladay, Braden, Buehrle, Johnson, David Cone, Wells and Rogers.
I'm know Cy Young did in the early days, and maybe Sandy Koufax?

I saw GB the other day and the tuck rule highlight is shown ever year around NFL playoff time or when there is another controversy.
Ill just say this, if this leads to replay then I think it will the game will be remembered a lot more by the regular spare.

I think the class he showed through the whole situation might help him a little.

This thread is a perfect example of how he will now be remembered more than he would have for a perfect game.

Sully, I do think it would have helped.
I think this guy will be remembered a lot longer for having this perfect game taken away. But it will fade, like all things. If instant replay comes about from this, then it will be talked about again at that point. The reason the tuck rule comes up around playoff time is its the only example. Perhaps, this being the only time this has happened will help it hang around longer. The situation will live on, but not the players. Just like the tuck rule.

This thread is a perfect example of how he will now be remembered more than he would have for a perfect game. Right NOW he's bigger than he would be for the perfect game. 20 yrs from now, no way. No one will be talking about this. No one would talk about his perfect game, either, but he would be one of the 21 (or however many have done it then) that had a perfect game under their belt.

I'm gonna set myself an internal reminder to make a call back to this thread in 20 yrs so we can talk about it then, just to prove Fischer wrong.

20 years from now they will be saying it was 20 years ago today that one of the worst calls in baseball history happened.
