Arkansas lost the best football coach we have ever had in my lifetime. I think your National Title winning and all time winningest coach Frank Broyles would probably disagree with this assessment.

Frank Broyles coached in a different time, in a two team league. Doubt he could put up the wins he did in the SEC.
There are worse things than players hating a coach, like players loving the coach because he lets them get away with slacking off. One thing about a players coach, the players usually end up walking all over him. Hate Petrino all you want, but he delivered results on the field. I hope Tevin Mitchel is right but I'll believe it when I see it.

One question: How many Aggie football players do you think hated Bear Bryant at Junction?

Yeah, that is fair enough.
But usually people RESPECT the coach that they aren't "buddies' with. Like Bill Parcells. They hated him, but respected him.
People can dislike a coach but respect him because they know he has their best interest at heart. Petrino cared NOTHING about Arkansas or anyone but himself. That is obvious.

I've seen tweets from former players that complimented Petrino. I've read some of BP texts that have been publicized where expressed a desire to remain the head coach. Maybe that was for purely selfish reasons or maybe he genuinely liked and wanted to coach at Arkansas. It's all pointless speculation at this point.
What's done is done. Bobby Petrino screwed up, BIG TIME. Long probably had no choice but to fire Petrino ,but if Arkansas thinks they are going to sign a big name coach this time of the year, they are going to be very disappointed.
As an Arkansas fan, I'm always going to wonder what might have happened if Petrino were still there and that sucks.

unless they win 11 games this year and contend for an SEC title.
Which I think can happen because they are loaded.
The new HC has one of the easier jobs in America. Keep all assistants. Let them do their thing. Decide whther or not to go for it on fourth down.

I think Finch nailed it. If we go the interim route we flush recruiting for this year. You can't afford to do that in the SEC. The only HC that would be willing to come here THIS YEAR are unproven and total reaches. Lose/Lose situation.
This team had a realistic chance to win the NC. No way that happens now, I count 7 maybe 8 wins.

That doesn't even make sense. There are rumors and there are rumors of rumors. Austin and Norman would love nothing more than for the GP rumors to ignite. Surprise they're not throwin Brile's name out there too.

"TCU coach Gary Patterson told me Thursday morning that he hasn’t been contacted by the University of Arkansas regarding the head coaching vacancy created by the firing of Bobby Petrino.
“I’ve had my nose down,” he said. “I’ve been working on two-days. Everyday we’re meeting on the stadium. Right now we’re concentrating on getting ready for the season at TCU.”
www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/golden/entries/2012/04/13/tcus_patterson_says_no_contact.html?cxntfid=blogs_goldens_nuggetsWow. No denial at all. If I were a TCU fan, I'd expect a little more of a denial, a little more "I am happy at TCU and will be the coach here as long as they'll have me" type of quote. At least give me an, "I have a great job now" type of response. He's either looking for more $$$ from TCU or hoping for a call... Interesting response by LHCGP. Well played, sir.

I chuckled when I read that, too. Mack Brown and Bob Stoops couldn't care less about TCU or Gary Patterson. He's right there with worrying about what's for lunch or what kind of demo car the dealer is going to give them next.
