Curious to hear your thoughts, Mike, now that all of this other stuff has come out about Petrino.
I've always said he was a snake and you have staunchly defended the man, claiming there was some sort of double standard being used against him.
Now, though, many Arkansas fans are defending him. The same fans who wanted to run Nutt out of Fayettville because he had an affair. I understand that winning is the difference, but Nutt's affair was used against him by nearly all of Arkansas' fans.
Do you still think Petrino is a good guy who gets treated unfrairly? Do you think he should keep his job? Would you send your child to Arkansas to play for him? When we spoke the other night, I mentioned that I thought he'd keep his job because it didn't have anything to do with on the field success. Now, I am not so sure.

Number 1.
Nutt was not run off because he had an affair. That's what the Nutt loving media wants you to believe. He was run off because he is a shitty football coach. (see Ole Miss after the previous coaches players left). I could care less if Nutt was screwing half of NW Arkansas BUT when he's sending 40 love texts to his girlfriend 10 minutes before a bowl game, I got a problem with it. Especially, when his offense goes out and shits the bed in the bowl game. Nutt was a hypocrite of the highest order, always playing up how he is a fine Christian man. That tends to piss people off.
Number 2.
Bobby Petrino is treated differently. I watched the final four and never heard any mention of Rick Pitino and his extra marital activities (rape and paying for an abortion). Where's the outrage?? I hardly think Bobby Petrino invented adultery in the college football coaching profession. He made a HUGE mistake, one that presidents, preachers, CEO's, men from all walks of life have made.
Number 3.
Bobby Petrino is hired to coach football and represent the University. The former he does better than any coach Arkansas has had in my lifetime. The later not so much, right now. I think the UA is going to try to keep him if at all possible. There is too much money at risk if they fire him. Personally, I hope he stays. Would Alabama fire Saban for getting a little strange? If we fire him he will be rehired within two years at one of these schools who's fans are talking about what a snake Petrino is ( I'm looking at you Tennessee, Texas, LSU, Florida, etc...) and we will be stuck fighting for 5th place in the SEC. Eff that.

Would I send my kid to play football for Bobby Petrino?
HELL YES. Petrino develops football players. Arkansas routinely finishes in the 20's in recruiting rankings yet last year finished 5th in the nation. I like winning and Petrino delivers. Bobby Petrino is not a saint, once you find a coach that is be sure to let me know.

They had no choice but to let him go. Also didn't help that he tried to cover it up, the cover up is always worse than the crime. |
