And I think that's gonna close the books on dove season for me this year. I'll be stuck at home next weekend. This has by far been the best dove season I've ever had, and with a new baby, I'm surprised it happened. 11 hunts and somewhere around 100-120 birds.

That's awesome.
I am going out one more time this weekend. But after hearing Tick's report from our place, I am not holding out too much hope.

Going with my grandfather this weekend in Gonzales. Probably won't shoot much but it should be fun.

Not huge necessarily, but being as I have only taken a spike and a small 8-point in my hunting career, gets me excited. Think I will let one of the kids take out this goofball Midnight beer and spotlighting anyone?

Damn racoons played with my timer long enough that it moved down, and aaaalllll the corn came out.

This was on my cousins camera, which he hadn't checked in several weeks, same ranch I hunt, just a different part.

wow, that is a nice deer. The first one is nice, too.
I'd let that little fella walk. He's just young. Might be a good one in a few years.

I dunno, I thought he was young at first too, but I had a goofy spike last year, and I can't help but think that might be him...but there's plenty of does for them to take.

very well could be, he is probably 2.5 years old.
But if he went from a spike to that in a year, he might turn out to be a decent buck in two years. Or he might not. I wouldn't have any problem letting him walk, or giving him a dirt nap.

This is true...I'm still learning how to age deer just by looking at them, I can definitely tell the old deer, like the first picture, I've been watching that one for 4 years, just haven't been able to get him on camera during the day, or for him to come out while I'm hunting....But I've got several pictures of him coming to eat between 8-8:30 this year. Hopefully he's senile now, and doesn't care. LOL

That first one is old and pretty nice. He seems smaller, but that may just be the area. Our deer are small too.
The second seems pretty young.
The last one is a really nice old buck. His brisket slaps his knees when he walks it looks like.

Thank you...like I said, I'm pretty excited about getting a shot at the first one. The other big one has been claimed by my cousin, but I make no promises if he walks out in front of me.

Claiming a deer shouldn't be allowed. If anyone is lucky enough to see him during the season, they better shoot. Big deer don't get big for their stupidity. If he slips up, I hope someone drops him, whether that's your cousin, or someone else (YOU).

agreed.
An exception would be if Sully owned the place and let me hunt just out of the kindness of his heart. I Sully had a trophy he was after and I saw it, I wouldn't shoot it.

Oh, if he walks in front of me he's gone....But towards the end of the season my cousin and I usually start walking, or hunting each others stands, just for a change of pace, that's where I might have a small twinge of guilt in taking that deer out, but if he walks out to MY feeder, in front of MY stand on MY 200 acres, game over.
