A new college baseball season is upon us, and there are a couple peso board teams that look poised to have a nice year.
TCU had a rough second week but are still one of the better teams in the nation. They are still Top 10 in most polls and will make a pretty solid run at a national seed.
A&M has gotten off to a nice start with some flat out dominate performances from the starting pitchers. The bats have been a little quiet, but hopefully the hitting will start to improve. Bullpen has also been solid. If the bats can wake up around conference time the Ags might finally challenge tu for the regular season conference title.
tu is off to a slow start but that has kind of been their mo the last few years. We shall see if Augie can get them back on track in the next few weeks. They will fighting for a national seed so if things don't turn around quickly they could be in trouble.
Rice has been the surprise disappointment so far, dropping some early games that could come back to haunt them around seeding time. It will be interesting to see if the bounce back.
Side note: This year the NCAA has gone to a new composite bat rather than aluminum that better imitate wood bats. While I think they will improve the game and give college pitchers a fighting chance, I am going to miss the "PING" that college baseball has become known for.

You are going to have to keep me updated throughout the season. Its tough to keep track of college baseball around here.

I will do my best. I don't normally do a very good job of keeping track but I decided since this will probably be my last baseball season in Aggieland I am going to make the most of it. Most of my updates will be Ag related, but I'll try to mix in some national news when I can.
Ags play UT-Pan American tonight and tomorrow before heading down to H-town this weekend for the Houston College Classic at MM Park. Ags will play Utah on Thur, Rice on Fri, and Houston on Sat.
Should be a good measuring stick for how the Ags are playing early in the season.

UH has had a solid baseball team for few years now. It would surprise me to see them snag a regional spot somewhere.

Ags beat UTPA tonight 4-1 behind another strong pitching performance. Ags improve to 7-1 and hand UTPA (5-1) their first loss of the season.

UH played a barely over .500 ball last season, if I remember right. I try hard to keep up with them but the Astros usually overtake them on my line of vision. I think there's a lot of returning jr's and sr's this year so we should do pretty well.

It's hard to keep up with college baseball no matter where you are. National outlets don't even report on it.

Ags improve to 8-1 with a 7-0 victory today over UTPA. Bats finally woke up a little today, hopefully they can carry that over in to the weekend.
TCU on the other hand is starting to look like they may be in for a rough year. They lost to Dallas Baptist last night and dropped to 4-4 with all four losses coming at home.
Rice also lost their fourth game of the year last night to Arizona. They play another tonight but things are looking tough for Rice as well. The season is still very young but if TCU and Rice have CWS aspirations they better get it together quick.

Mike's Hogs are also off to a very nice start this season. They started the year 6-0 before dropping a game last night to McNeese State. They did however bounce back today with a win over McNeese to improve to 7-1.

losing one game here and there, no matter who it is to, means nothing
losing 4-6 early on, is cause for concern.

losing one game here and there, no matter who it is to, means nothing losing 4-6 early on, is cause for concern. Especially for teams in the lower tier conferences. Once conference play starts quality wins are going to be few and far between for teams like Rice and TCU. Not getting those quality wins now means they are going to draw the short straw when it comes time for seeding.

I thought TCU was doing good. This is probably due to Stubbs posting on Facebook about each win and talking them up. He failed to post anything on any losses.
