Happy Thanksgiving from out at the deer camp! Cold front blew in last night. Its 33 degrees with a fading north wind. Feels colder. This is my first time to hunt this place since last year. May see curly a year older or he may be dead. Should be real good this week. I love this stuff!

Just saw a huge 10 at the gate going to the blind. Big big deer right in the headlights.

Once I got to the stand, saw two big does. Then two bucks. It was barely light so I couldn't make out what they were. One was small but the other was pretty dang big. Couldn't bring myself to shoot not knowing exactly what he was. They left right away. Nothing else til I was driving out. At the same gate saw no less than 40 does running out of the wheat field. Big buck chasing but never got a shot. Its on here.

Btw, the deer here look like cows compared to the mills county goat deer.

Went out that afternoon and only saw 3 small bucks and 6 to 8 does. Drove home to drop off the wife and dog and came out to the lease last night. 6 hours on the road.
Sitting in the hex with Scheu. Nothing so far

Well the hunting at the lease was a major fail. No one saw much at all and it was real windy.

Actually, I saw a ton of action Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Lots of does, spikes, young bucks, and a couple that made me really think about shooting them.
It only sucked Saturday PM and Sunday AM, which really weren't that bad because we saw deer each time, and had chances at does (if we wanted one) and saw decent young bucks.
It was probably the most action I have ever seen while deer hunting.

Getting pumped about this weekend. Going out tomorrow afternoon and hunting until Monday afternoon. This will be the weekend boys. I'm killing something. Buck or doe or both. Maybe goat if the other two don't work out. Should be epic trip to the lease this time. Brandon and his buddy, Finch, Scheu and his buddy and me. Can't freaking wait to get out there.

Things we constantly say at the lease, but rarely/never happens:
I'm going to kill something this hunt
I'm going to shoot a goat
If I see a black buck I'm going to shoot it
I do have a feeling that there will be 2 bucks and 2 does shot this weekend. Mark it.

I had the pleasure of teaching my neighbor how to skin a doe lastnight. This is his first kill since he was a kid and boy was he freakin' pumped. He called and said they don't skin the deer at the processor and asked for my help. I skinned most of it and even showed him the proper way to take out the straps and loins. He was amazed at how it all works. The most important lesson i was taught him was keeping the knife against the backbone or ribs (depending which side of the strap you are on) at all times when removing straps.
He was highly impressed. I had to remind him that it takes a few practices to get a technique that works for you and to never let your buddy turn his edge towards you if two guys are working on the deer at the same time.

Should be a good weekend. This better be the weekend for me or I don't know what I will do. I need some damn jerky.

Well Finchs claim worked out. Scheu got a doe and his buddy and brother got mini schnauzers. Brandon got a spike. I was left out in the cold.
I'm in the hex this morning. Already got a doe down to my left at first light. Yearling hanging around the feeder. Sun just breaking.
