Yearling left and wind is starting to pick up again. Saw 3 bucks way out to the right and that's it. May load up the doe and go for a ride

Saw a good ten point buck and several does on the way out. Got the doe quartered up. Back in stand for a rare Sunday afternoon hunt.

Well I finally got on the board with my first deer of the season last night with a huge assist from Sully.
While I was packing my stuff to leave Sully texted me from the blind and said he had a spike eating corn where he was hunting. I hopped in the truck and hauled ass out there. I managed to sneak in to the blind with out scaring the spike off and immediately had a shot. Took the shot, saw the deer stumble and then take off. After a brief search Sully found the blood trail which took us right to him about 50 yards away. All total we figured I was in the blind for less than a minute.
In all the excitement of the quick kill we forgot to take a pic, but I still have the head so I'll try to remember to snap a pic later. I think it's this crappy 4 point we have been seeing all year, but he broke off one side leaving just a spike. Good that we were able to get rid of him.
The food this weekend was definitely top notch. Friday night we had steaks as thick as the Bible that were cooked to perfection. Saturday night we had roast with potatoes, carrots, and home made beans. Sunday morning we had breakfast tacos made from all the leftovers that were as good as it gets. We may never eat that good out there again.
All in all we had a great weekend. Friday night we watched Richland Springs beat the dog out of Milford in the 6 man playoffs. Saturday and Sunday were mostly spent drinking beer, riding around, and hunting in the morning and evening.
Now we are all pretty much buck hunting so the next month should be fun to see what gets killed.

We had a great time this weekend. Ate like kings too. I got a big doe. Finch, Brandon and Nathan all got spikes. Brandon, Scheu and little bro Scheu got does. Good weekend for sure. Still not seeing any good bucks in legal light, but they are coming back to the feeders finally. Acorns are gone. So, it should get real good over the next few weeks. I just hope we have a couple chances to get back out there. Here are some pics. My doe My prank on the guys at the house after Sunday morning hunt. Should have seen their faces. I drove up and they all piled out of the house hooting and hollering like I just got a state record. It was awesome. Jim is back at the feeder regularly, and looks like he may be a shooter if it gets down to it.

Jerkyfest 2010 has begun
Two straight days of smoking venison and drinking beer. May even try to smoke some ribs tomorrow night after I'm done. Hopefully it comes out tasty.

Awesome pics
Just pulled my first batch of jerky off the fans, didn't turn out too bad. Also just put the second batch on the pit. Did a little different brine with these so I'm interested to see how they turn out.

The more I look at that zoomed in pic, the more I'm kicking myself for not shooting his ass last year. DAMN, that's a good mature deer.
If we saw him in Mills County, it would be illegal to shoot him. Not saying someone wouldn't do it. Just saying it's illegal with a less than 13" spread.

My dad brought by some jerkey, sausage, burger meat, and steaks last night.
He got a doe the other day. Got out there at 1:45 Friday afternoon. By 2:15 he was in his stand. By 2:45 he nailed her. By 3:00 he had her loaded on the 4-wheeler. By 5 he was back at camp and all cleaned up. By 6 he was bored the rest of the weekend. He was out there by himself for 2 1/2 days. It reminded my of when the dude on Swamp People went gator hunting by himself and his wife was scared.
I know he's got a buck, doe, and a spike so far. Not sure what his limit is or even what county he's in these days.

It's only the most bad ass show on tv right now. They just finished their first season a few weeks ago, I already can't wait for season 2. I'll tell you more later when I have the time.
