He needs to move from SS because he has lost a step in the field. His range is limited. Trade him and get some pitching.

Ok...he's been an All-Star for 5 straight years. He won a Gold Glove last year. What more do you want? Andrus committed 30+ errors in 118 games. I agree that Elvis is the future at short but to tell your leader he's going to play 3rd and not give him an option is sorry. He has had to sit through 3 different building phases and he's barely uttered a word. He is one of the most respected players in the league and the treatment he has received is completely unprofessional. He volunteered to make the move to second when Soriano declared he was going to play 2nd despite being a butcher. The Rangers did nothing but bow to Soriano's demands. Young has been an exemplary teammate and is a professional in every facet of the game. The Rangers were near the bottom if not at the bottom in defense last year. How does playing a kid who made 30+ errors at AA last year make you a better ball club? I think we'll see in spring training that Andrus isn't quite ready to be a MLB player. The best thing to do would have Michael at SS this year, move him to 2nd in '10 and move Kinsler to LF where his ADD will be less of a liability. If nothing can be worked out then trade him. Michael Young deserves to be on a team that is committed to winning.

I bet you would have a different opinion if this was T.O. being asked to play another position for the Cowboys and he objected to the move. I could hear all the T.O. bashing now.

Wrong, Stubbs.
If the GM/Coach asks you to move positions because they feel its in the best interest of the team, any real leader complies, and does so without hesitation. If he doesn't, then all of that "team first" stuff is a bunch of crap. The guy just got exposed as a selfish, me first player (no surprise, nearly all of them are that way). No big deal.

that is not for you or me to decide. That is what the coach and GM get paid to do.
Sure, we can disagree with their decisions, but if the leader doesn't listen to and oblige the coach, he is crippling the team.
This is a point that you have always struggled to grasp...its a TEAM game. The coach is in charge of directing the team. If the coach feels that a certain player needs to do something, and that player refuses, he is hurting the team.

The GM and the manager say it is better for the team. That is all that should matter to the pseudo good-guy Mike Young. You are paid to play baseball not just play shortstop.

I think you forget that this is the THIRD rebuilding phase he's been through. The guy has been more than patient. I think after all this time he has the right to speak out on something he doesn't like. He won a Gold Glove at the position last year and now you want to replace him with a butcher? I think it hurts the team more to tell your leader that he has to change positions without giving him a say. The situation has been completely mishandled and Michael Young deserves better. What I don't like is that Daniels says that moving MY to 3rd will give them an oppportunity to add another championship calibur player to the roster. How in the hell does Daniels know what a championship calibur player looks like?
How have I failed to grasp that it's a team game? Evidence?

This is not little league. He is paid to play baseball. Play it the way the Rangers want you to play it or go home.
