Obviously, the Rangers feel that Andrus is ready and his position is SS. Young needs to be a team player and take one for the team here. Plenty of players better than him have changed positions. I never thought I'd see the day when A-Rod was more of a team player than Mike Young. The situation could have been handled MUCH better. The message this sends to the young players is that if you shut your mouth, duck your head, play your ass off, suffer through 3 rebuilding phases, become an All-Star Gold Glover, sign an extension rather than testing free-agency, then you too can be treated like shit.

Hey, I have no problem with him moving to 2nd and I think he'd be willing to do it but he knows he's not an MLB 3B and feels like the Rangers are slighting him-which they are. After all this, this is how he is treated.

Look, if the great Pete Rose can be asked to play 4 different positions in his career, then someone like Mike Young can be asked to move to third base.

Why not? You just said he is an ALL STAR Gold Glove SS. He is signed up for the next 4 years. Are you saying he's not that good?

Not at all...Just in this economy, if your name isn't Manny, Texeiria, or you're not a pitcher you're not going to get that kind of money. The Mets and BoSox might be the only ones who can take on that kind of money. The only other option would be to eat a portion of his salary.

Then if no one wants him he can drink a big cup of the STFU and trot his ass to third base.
OR
He can retire and try to find a $16m a year job out here in the real world.

Normally I would say that too but he's one of the good guys in baseball and I'll give him some lattitude.

I dont think they will get anything good for him, at least not anything that is proven. He has been declining in his stats the past few years and isnt worth what he is being paid. So, this being said, he should go ahead and do what his employers tell him to do since they are paying him more money than anyone else would if he were a free agent.

His stats were down last year because he played through two broken fingers on his throwing hand.
BTW, instead of focusing on bolstering up their horrific pitching staff in the off-season, the only news they've made is forcing the face of their franchise to move to a position in which he's not familiar with to make room for an unproven prospect who made 32 errors in 118 games who will become double play partners with a guy who made 18 errors in 121 games. Kinsler was dead last in fielding percentage among ML qualifying 2Bs. Young was second among SSs. What a dreadful sight the middle infield will be next year. Add rookie catcher Teagarden to the mix and it will be downright awful. TT will be great but he'll have normal rookie growing pains. It just doesn't make sense and there are bigger fish to fry than who will play SS...but in typical Rangers fashion, they don't show their fans they are committed to winning by ignoring pitching. Pitching and defense win championships. They have neither.

I don't care if it is smoke screens to make MY look like the bad guy. We have a proven 2B. Blalock is on his way out too, so Davis will be at 1st. MY can move to 3rd or move on. Rangers are sticking to the plan and developing a winner. Honestly, thanks to MY for giving us something to cheer for the past 5 years, but it's time to move on to bigger and better things to come.
If he's not worth a pile of dog shit in this market, then why do you put him on such a pedestal.
