I can't stop laughing. ;D 60+ days and this is the best you can come up with? At least Coker and Fran get people talking...Jones gets people sleeping. I can't believe Jones would take this job. Another year at UH and he may have been able to land a Pac-10 job...or at least something other than CUSA.

I can give you 2 million reasons a year that he would take this job.
If I were TCU, I would be concerned.

this is better than a PAC 10 Job for a number of reasons:
1.) money 2.) Doesn't have to live on the West Coast 3.) Doesn't have to try to beat Pete Carroll yearly 4.) Money 5.) gets to live in Texas (even if it is Dallas) 6.) Money

Word is that UH was less than a presidential salary away from matching the deal. I can understand why he'd want to come to Texas but SMU? I'm not worried in the least bit.

Good hire. When you can't get the premier candidates to go to SMU? You take a guy like this. And he gladly takes the job. Probably got tired of paradise.

I think that Coker and even Fran make an immediate impact in recruiting. Jones makes almost none. SMU will take at least 3 years to turn around. Jones did an interview last summer saying that he didn't see himself coaching any more than 5 years. Good luck with all that...

Do you honestly think that if Fran or Coker had success they would stay at SMU longer than 5 years?
SMU needed someone to put it back on the college football map. They have done that. I am fairly sure that more people now can name SMU's coach than TCU's. They are now the face of college football in the DFW area.

I think Coker would stay. The next stop for him will be his last. Who knows with Fran. Would anyone be able to trust him?
And this does NOT put SMU on the map. Win a game or TWO and maybe people will start to think about them.

I think hiring away the coach of a team that was in the BCS will put you on the map.
Pony up, Matt. Embrace the Hilltop!

But its SMU and no one will take you seriously until you can at least break .500.

well, Cowtown is right...more people know SMU's HC than TCU's. Not to mention, they were on the front of ESPN and on SportsCenter. They are being talked about all over the nation today.

The talk is more about leaving UH than it is going to SMU. That's ok, SMU can enjoy the spotlight for a day or two...but what are they going to do when the batteries run out and all they have are two AAAs and a watch battery in the junk drawer.

SMU is a diamond in the rough. Great school located in a major metropolitan area that is the home of hundreds of D1 football prospects. New state of the art stadium as opposed to what TCU is running out there. If they would only lower the admission standards to what TCU allows (and there is talk this will happen) they will begin taking athletes from TCU. Better watch out Frogs.

State of the art stadium that can't get more than 17k unless it's TTU. Just wait until TCU is done with their renovations. ACS has character and tradition. Every MWC opponent loves how the stadium feels.
About admissions standards...they've been doing that for years but used it as an excuse to cover up there pathetic seasons. Do you think the Pony Express was made up of a team of geniuses? Or is is geniusi??? I bet that 50% of their roster wouldn't be able to gain admission as a regular student. There's nothing wrong with that. Most schools do that. Miami, ND, USC, TU...they all lower admissions standards. Just don't act like you don't do it. And don't bitch about losses when you use the excuse. If you're going to do that, drop down to 1-AA. Rice has much stricter standards and enforces them a lot more than SMU does and still has been able to put together a few decent teams over the last 20 years deep in the Asshole of Texas.

Oh, and Orsini came out and said that they' ve made a commitment to winning. His first follow up comment was something to the effect of lowering academic standards.
