True...but the definition of insanity is performing the same task over and over and expecting a different result every time. The result is always the same...a stalled drive.

First of all, they are absolutley not better than their record. Not putting it together is what makes a team bad. That is like saying "we would have won if we scored more and they scored less." They are every bit as mediocre as their sorry record. That is a stupid comment. They may have more talent than you would assume a 5-5 team to have, but that doesn't make them better, it actually makes them worse. Second, the OC may not be the next Bill Walsh but... YOU DO NOT PICK THE SIDE OF THE FIELD YOU RUN THE OPTION TO. How hard is that to understand? Seriously, why do all these pencil neck know it alls think that you have to run all plays to the wide side of the field? If a defense is giving you a play to the short side, you take it. Sometimes players don't execute, or the defense makes a good play, but you run a play that alignment gives you. I fully expect you to disregard this fact because it doesn't help your argument, but there it is. Like I said, though, he probably does need to go...the offense is extremely lethargic and unproductive. But its not because he calls the dad gum "short side option" Coach- If a team has more talent than their record suggests; where should the blame fall?

leadership, development, being overrated, bad scheme, tough schedule, players not buying in to the coaches philosophy, the coach's philosophy, apathy. It could be any number of things. It happens every year to numerous teams. If the most talented team won every year, then USC and OU would have won every national title since 2000. ( maybe throw that miami one in there in the early oughts)

It never falls squarely on the coaches shoulders?

I think the coaching staff shares a large part of the blame this year. The offense was just horrible at times this year and just when it seemed like they were getting on track they'd take 10 steps back. The OC had no clue as to what kind of offense he wanted to run. And as much as I want to kick the OC, the ultimate blame falls squarely on the head coach. I love GP but this one is on him.

I said a lot of things that are squarely on the coaching staff: leadership(one kind), development, bad scheme, the coach's philosophy. There are others. Gameplanning, game management, how to bounce back after a loss, etc. Some that aren't tcu's problem but are problems elsewhere: recruiting, losing control of team, not being prepared, recruiting, recruiting.
I never said coach's shouldn't be to blame for overall performance...never once. What chaps me is people thinking certain calls are bad and that they know the calls that should be made.
For instance, a fan griping about an option call on 3rd and short. What I do think the fans should be pissed about is being 5-5 and not getting any better as the season goes on. No matter what the reason is, it is the coach's responsibility to move the team in the right direction. That is when people should be mad at the coaching staff.

I also don't think its wrong to question a call... "why do we run option on 3rd and short?"
I question that all the time. I also know that there is a reason, even if its one that I don't agree with.
But when you just assume that the coach that called it is a dumbass, that is your downfall.

Calling it on 3rd and short when the field looks like a goat ranch and BYU soaked it 4 hours before game time is a pretty dumbass call. Seriously, Notre Dame saw how long the grass was and was jealous.

see, its stuff like that.
Like I said, its taking it upon yourself to be the expert when you don't know anything that gets to me. Not liking the call is fine. Just hop off the high horse thinking you know what is best.

Ok, let's see...BYU's line is about 25 years old on average-they are stronger and faster than almost anyone we had faced...our tackles were getting beat consistently. The field was wet. The grass hadn't been cut in 6 months. Let's call a slow-developing play to get the two feet we need. Makes no sense. You don't need a PHD in football to know that.

you need more of an education in football than you have. That is a fact.
Once again, its fine to not agree with it. But you have ZERO credibility and you DO NOT know anything about football.
The grass length is a moot point. Its just as long for both teams.
Also, since their line is so good, you DO want to run a play like that, you dumb shit. That is why you run plays like that. Why do you think the Service academies run the option...it allows you to leave the majority of the line unblocked...they take themselves out of a play. If their line is so great, that might be your insight on why they didn't go straight ahead at them.
If you want me to explain some things to you about the option I will gladly do so. You are VERY ignorant on it.
