I'd love to hear some feedback on this.
I've heard mixed emotions about it today and read some funny comments.

I just heard it was official. But who knows if it was just a rumor started on AggieYell or something.

Here is something that was sent to me from another source:
"When the LHN was announced last fall, A&M officials took a long hard look at the economics of the deal and decided that they couldn't compete with Texas unless they did something different. They have been in discussions with SEC officials since that time. The person he talked to said that all future alignment discussions would be based on economics and that A&M was ahead of the curve in this regard.
On August 22, the A&M BOR will make it official. It doesn't matter what the NCAA decided today regarding the LHN or if the Big 12 has any further meetings or whatever penalties are assessed by the Big 12 for A&M leaving the conference.
There's nothing that can be done at this point to stop this. The BOR has determined that A&M's future lies in the SEC and away from Texas and will ratify this officially.
He was told that although Rick Perry will be in Birmingham and South Carolina this weekend, he has nothing to do with it. He was also told that he didn't have anything to do with the events of last summer. The timing of Perry's trip to the south has to do with his announcement that he is running for president which will be made Saturday on the same day that the Iowa straw polls are being done.
I apologize for not having much prior to this but this is the conversation that I waiting to have because there has been no better source on A&M over the years and because this comes directly from the highest levels. Prior to that, I wanted to be cautious but there's no need to be cautious at this point.
It's over.
Tarp"

What gives a little more credence to Tarp (aggieyell moderator and owner) is that they have been completely silent all week while media outlets all over the country were reporting these rumors.
Last year AY came out saying the Ags were going to the SEC only to have the deal fall through in the 11th hour and AY came out looking the fool. This time around, Tarp commented early on that he would not mention a word about the rumors until he got confirmation from a source that is high up on the food chain within Texas A&M. That confirmation came today.
I am cautiously optimistic. But I know things can change in a hurry.

Yeah, they've been incredibly silent. The media is getting ZERO leads from generally reliable insiders. Chip Brown hasn't even been able to make up crap.

I wonder how the dominoes will fall. Which other team will go to the SEC? I'm hearing Missouri but there's no way those southern dummies will allow two schools with those book learning kids to enter their conference. I think Florida State is a more likely candidate. Clemson is also a possibility. TSN is reporting Louisville as a top candidate but that doesn't make a lick of sense to me. LV adds very little and UK will fight like hell to keep that from happening. The two schools already play every year and I think that's enough for UK. One thing the SEC has in it's favor is the fact that they don't neccessarily need a school located in a large media market.
The Big 10 will look towards Notre Dame, Syracuse, Missouri, and Pitt (but it may take JoePa on his deathbed for that to happen).
The ACC will probably try to court WVU and Pitt among others.
The Big East will take a look at KU, KSU, Missori, ND, and possibly try to lure BC back. They have a HUGE TV deal coming that will pay more than the ridiculous one the ACC got. The football schools will eventually break off from the basketball which could hurt them with the TV deal. Another possibility is to give a handfull of basketball schools the boot-Seton Hall and DePaul would be a start.
I guess the real kicker is if conferences are satisfied with 14 schools or do they want 16? I think the P12 would be the first. I think the SEC and B10 could be satisfied with 14.

Lets get this talk going today. People are making me mad. And ESPN is dumb.

It's inevitable. The SEC is getting their ducks in a row. This is all just legal posturing. ESPN is going to do all they can to protect the LHN and the crumbling of the B12 hurts their commodity.
Additionally, ESPN is protecting their contract with the ACC. The conference will be damaged if FSU leaves for the SEC and the Big East convinces BC to return. If the B12 collapses and Missou is left out of the SEC, the BE will be waiting to gobble up Missouri, KU, and KSU. BC would give them 13 and you know they are going to ramp up their courting of ND like never before. It's still a longshot but a 14 team BE that has no TV contract going into 2013 and is in heavy discussions with NBC is a major concern for ESPN. ESPN has been the puppetteer behind CFB for years and it's time someone cuts the strings.
A 14 team SEC does very little for ESPN. They already have the Saturday night contract and the regional SEC network for noon games. They are doing everything they can to protect their other assets.
Ags, would you ever believe that the fate of the future of CFB hangs in the balance of your Fightin' Texas Aggies?

I wish this would bring ESPN down. It's time for a change in sports programming.

aTm is a done deal. Va tech will also be added. SEC does NOT want schools from currently occupied states.

VT seems logical but what exactly do they bring? Football, part of the northern VA market, and a goiter that won't go away.

VTU expands the footprint, buddy. Also do not rule out Mizzou, WVU, or Oklahoma.

SEC does NOT want schools from currently occupied states. Not exactly sure why they don't. Tenn/Vandy. Bama/AU. Is that the feeling of the conference as a whole or is that coming from Columbia and Gainesville? But it does fall in line with their statement that they will not seek a 16 team league. If they go to 16 same state schools are inevitable unless they get Missouri, which I don't think is a good fit. Honestly, I wish all the big conferences would get to or stay at 12. Shouldn't the SEC be afraid of watering down their brand with 16 or even 14 teams?
