Purke selected by Washington in the 3rd. He's coming back to TCU.

Rangers draft report, courtesy of Newberg...
The Rangers' [Supplemental first-round pick Zach] Cone hit .363/.403/.627 for the Bulldogs in 2010, leading to pre-season All-America recognition and prompting BA’s Jim Callis to write a year ago that he profiled as a first-round pick this season and that he “[m]ight be the best athlete in the 2011 college crop.” But he collided with fellow Bulldogs outfielder Jonathan Taylor as they converged on a looping line drive in March, leaving Taylor (who weighed 20 pounds less than the 200-lb. Cone) partially paralyzed with a neck injury after his head struck Cone’s hip. He may not walk again.
Texas just drafted Taylor in the 33rd round (h/t Jason Cole of Lone Star Dugout).
I find this very, very, very cool.

Oh dang, I didn't know Cone was the guy who ran into him. That devistated the team. Bad break for that kid. Good call on the Rangers part.

Rangers fire Thad Bosely and bring up Scott Coolbaugh from Round Rock as new hitting coach. Also Ian KInsler goes on Paternity leave and up comes Chris Davis. Will Coolbaugh and Davis carpool from Austin?

I just heard that...seems like they gave him the Rhads treatment.
This is weird...there's more to the story that we don't know. They're hitting well. 2nd in BA and 3rd in OPS. Fewest strikeouts and middle of the pack in walks. My only real complaint is their patience on the first pitch. Just doesn't make sense. Something's up.
Coolbaugh played for the Rangers about 20 years ago. His brother is the one that died coaching 1st base in Frisco when he got beaned with a line drive. He's the reason why base coaches have to wear helmets now.

According to Evan Grant, there was a "communication" issue with Bosely. Translation: the players hated him.
Slight correction to your Coolbaugh info, his brother was coaching for Tulsa and died during a game in North Little Rock. Scott Coolbaugh is a huge Sip and probably a friend of the Ryan family. Nolan strikes again.

My bad...I thought he was in Frisco...guess it was Scott who was there at the time. I used to have a baseball card of Coolbaugh when he was in a sip uni.
I don't care if the players hated him...you can't argue with results. I guess batters love the white man and the white man loves him back.

Davis had a good night in the bigs for once. Too bad we don't have much room for him, or that he doesn't play second base. Why wouldn't we move Kinsler at the deadline to any taker for another RP and insert MY at second full time?

I posed that question to Newberg a few months ago and he ignored it. MY is a liability just about anywhere on the field. There was an easy ground ball he misplayed and it went up the middle for a basehit. Granted, the Aderol Kidd may have booted it too but it's a play he knows he should have made and there have been many of those. Part if it is dimished skills and part is just being out of rhythm from not playing the same position every day. But it's a move that might work since he's not playing in the field full time and down the stretch when they'll need him his legs won't be as tired from playing in the field every day in the North Texas heat.
He is signed through next year which gives him added value but the Rangers may want to see what they have in Feldman and Hunter who are slated to come back soon before pulling the trigger on such a move. Trading your secondbaseman is one thing. Trading your leadoff hitter is another, even though that Liberty County psychic has a higher average that he does. If they do move him they may try to package Murphy in the deal.
There's just no room for Davis at all with the way Chavez is playing. If he continues to produce at the plate and plays a solid center Josh and Nellie will hold down the corners with Moreland rotating between 1st, DH, and RF depending on the matchup and when Wash wants to give someone a day off. Trading Kins would free up some opportunities for Davis but it's highly unlikely at this point. However, I don't expect the Rangers to make a big attempt to resign him when he's free because Elvis will be arbitration eligible next year and they'll have to pay him handsomely to keep him happy until he's a free agent in 2015. Nellie will be AE next year as well with FA in 2014 and Josh will be a FA in 2013. The Rangers are going to have to pay in a big way and Kins will probably be the odd man out.

Chavez is an interesting dude. Much older than I realized and he's had a swim through a couple of ports of call before landing here. Hope he keeps it up and the injury issues don't show back up.
