I heard that Lee's agent contacted the Phillies about Lee coming to play there. They had not entered the negotiations until Lee made it clear he wanted to go there.

I heard all the same things. Lee called Daniels. Agent called Cashman. Lee/Agent went to Philly asking for offer. Money did not matter in the decision. He's a stand-up good guy. Unfortunately, we don't have the team in place to win next year like the Phillies do. We need to piece a solid staff together. I mean, not just Garza or Greinke either. Something like two aces and Lewis and Wilson. Then, whoever we can get up to the show fastest (Scheppers, Feliz and bring in a closer, Holland). Unfortunately, there is no one that worthy on the market.
My how things could have gone differently if we would have been in a position last year to go after Halladay.

CLee surprised me by going with his heart instead of taking the biggest pile of cash. Im not going to hate on him, I'm kind of impressed by it. I think he was pretty classy by calling the Rangers personally with the news. Stand-up guy. Thanks for the memories, CLee.

I'm thoroughly impressed with Mr. Lee and wish more athletes would go with there heart. I know it's still a butt load of money but I can't think of any athlete doing this before, taking less money. Didn't Wade take a little less?

Wade, LeBron, and Bosh all took less

But it should also be mentioned that a basketball players NBA salary is nothing compared to their endorsement deals. So taking less in the NBA really isn't that big of a deal compared to baseball players who have little to no endorsements.

They took the max that the Heat could pay them, had they gone to a team with more cap room they would be making 4-6 mil more a year.

Right, I'm just trying to think of other athletes who took less money or less years to play for a team or town they are fond of.

Sorry, you are correct, Wade makes 500,000 less a year. Not exactly the same as Cliff Lee.
My point was all three could have made more had they not decided to all play together. Say had Bosh gone to Miami to play with Wade, and LeBron had stayed in Cleveland. They would all be making over 20 mil a year right now.

No I'm not correct. Is that a first admitting you are wrong? Wade might make less but I don't think the other two got max contracts. I looked up all the stuff and now I have no idea how they figure out a max contract.
It's based on years the player has been in the league and salary cap of the team. I'm not willing to put in the effort to see if Lebron and Bosh actually got the "max" contract. So I'll succeed.

The NBA salary cap is a cluster f to say the least.
We'll just agree to agree.
