Yeah, I know, it's football season. But to all you baseball fans...Who makes it out of the NL as the wild card.
There's a week left, and 5 teams within 3 games of each other.
We all know NYY is in for the AL.
And Rangers thoughts for next season? What about Torii Hunter? Bonds speculation?

Bonds will NOT come here. Hicks has already made it clear that does not want a me-first individual around his young club. They just got rid of one and I think it would be the worst PR move in TR history to bring in another one. Tory Hunter will be here next year. Hank Blaylock will be playing first base. Travis Metcalf will be at 3rd. Half way through the season, Hank's shoulder will be back to 100% and they'll switch. Botts will be with another organization. Byrd will be in left. Nellie in right. Salty behind the plate. Pretty decent lineup. Milwood will be better...but that's not saying much. He'll win 14 games. Padilla will be gone. McCarthy will be healthy and more consistent (hopefully). He'll win 12. Gabbard will be the #3 starter and win 14-16 games. Volquez will be the #4 starter and win 12-15 games. The #5 spot will consist of about 10 different guys (including Robinson Tejada who will never find it again) and contribute 8 wins. They will get 60 wins from their starters. Any time you get 60 wins your starters, you position yourself for a playoff run. I say they'll fall a game or two short of the wild card.

You have to be. Have to be. They need to get another lefty in the bullpen...especially if Ceej turns out to be the closer. The talent is there...its just a matter of putting it all together and playing sound, fundamental ball. Kinsler's stone hands at the beginning of the year didn't help. Wilkerson's love affair with the swing and a miss kills rallies...If I had a dollar for every time he's ended the game with a strikeout, I could buy a CD from Bill's. Laird's inability to take pitches at the appropriate times killed them pretty often too. I like Wash. I like his approach to the game. A lot of things he preaches are things I taught myself about the game. Unfortunately my talent didn't measure up but I made myself very useful by playing the game right. Playing it right mixed with talent is how championships are made. I hated the Yanks in the late 90s but I loved watching how they played the game. They did everything right. They were the best team not because they had the best players but because they had the best approach. You go out with the right approach, you're gonna win ball games. I think today's athlete doesn't like to be told what and how to do something but if fundamentals aren't stressed and repeated over and over, you're going to lose ball games. I think the talent is going in the right direction and over the last three months, they'd taken the right approach to every game...minus a few bad apples-ie. Texiera and Padilla.

As soon as I say that, Guzman gets picked off because he doesn't have the correct form when taking his first step towards second. Geez...

I agree with a lot of that. F Bonds. Bring in Hunter. Maybe snag another 4 or 5 guy in the rotation. God knows we can't have too many of those. I'd like to see at least 10 wins from the 5 spot. Lineup will be much improved. I think we fall short of the wildcard but see huge upside going into 09.
Where is Padilla going? Don't we have him here a couple more years for big $$$?

Anyone give a damn about this years postseason? As much as I love baseball, if it ain't Rangers, I don't give a damn. All my heroes have retired-ie. Gywnn, Ripken, Keith Hernandez (well), and Steve Howe. I have no other guys on other teams that I care about. I think Padilla has 2 years left at 8 mill. Cut your losses and just give him the money and walking papers and send him back to Mexico. We don't need his act here.

I'm still following baseball. F Bonds. Exalt to Hunter. I see the Padres for the NL. But hell, I'm a girl. Who knows?

Been a supporter of the Pads since Gwynn...hate them now that they have Milton Bradly (well). That idiot may have cost his team a playoff birth. Did you see what he did? He tore his ACL when his manager had to wrestle him down to the ground when he went after an umpire.

I might check a score if I am bored at work to see who won the previous night's matchup...it IS the playoffs. Other than that its strictly football.
Now, if the Rangers were in the hunt, I would be watching every chance I got.
They will be better next year, but still not make the playoffs.

Man, Fischer and I have agreed on several things the last 5 days or so. Is this a sign that the end is near?
