i no longer think soccer is gay.
at least not here in france. i know i know, of all the places to find out something is not gay, whod've guessed france?! but it's true. world cup, here, is a big fucking deal. imagine three superbowls a day for a month straight. that's what it feels like. think of your friends and then pick out the biggest sports asshole of them all... well, that's everyone here except they all dress and act like superfans also. it's fucking rad. i've always tried to get into world cup and euro but with the same results everytime: get bored and decide yet again that soccer is gay. but not the case any longer.
the other night i had to stand across a street (which had basically been shut down because of the mob of people there alongside me) just to see the game on a widescreen in a bar all the way on the other side of the street. at one point the t.v. went off and every mother fucker there not only starts cussing and rioting... but they all, every last one of them, pulls a red card out of pocket and starts shaking it at the bar. i about shit.. it was that awesome.
anyways, i'm sure that next couple years when euro starts up again and i'm trying to watch it in the states i'll be back to thinking it's gay. but for now... soccer fucking rules!
note: i also think it is chingon that in french soccer is simply called foot; as if that's the only fuckin' reason we've got 'em.
