Just a heads up...
I don't know if you hunters here, know about Sonic Ice. A Sonic close to my house will sell you a 10lb bag for .99 cents. Do the math on that one.
Plus, with those small pieces of ice, it makes it very simple to clean your deer, leave the quarters /straps/loins in tact and put in a cooler on ice. The ice fits perfect up in those hard to reach areas, ensuring a fresh harvest once you get home. I usually put the deer in backside down and pack the chest cavity with the Sonic Ice. Try it.

love sonic ice.
I get regular ice for free, though at the field house.
At Denton High our ice machine made the sonic ice. It was awesome.

Thanks for the heads-up DB. I'll be loading up on that stuff. I've never quartered my deer. But I will be making an attempt this year. I may shoot a doe right off the bat for practice. Any advice?

Always remember this. You ever seen a recipe for horn soup? Didn't think so. Shoot anything that moves. You ever seen a recipe for Track soup? Didn't think so. Be sure you hit what you are aiming at. Class dismissed.

Well, I made it out to the range this afternoon. The first couple shots were about 3 in high and 3 in to the left, but my main problem was flinching a little at first. I adjusted the scope a few clicks down and to the right and we were on the money once I settled in and got comfortable. I'm packing up tonight, but after that I'm really primed up to shoot something. Weather is working out to my advantage with the cold front hitting Sunday-Monday, and it's a new moon.
We'll see how it goes.

Well yesterday was a busy day. Got out to the brush blind about 15 mins to daylight and it was a warm slow hunt. Saw 5 does and a young 6 pointer. Once they moved off it shut down early. Checked my camera and only had a bunch of pics of does and hogs. And two small eights. Then walked back to my other setup and found my feeder was stolen. Built a new one and set it up in a different location and set another blind. Saw two 6 pointers fighting and some does in the afternoon. Then the hogs rolled in and ran em all off.
Back in a covered stand in the light rain this morning. Just got light so I will keep you updated. Its starting to get a lot cooler so we will see.

The rain is letting up a little and I have a doe about 40 yards in front of me cruising around. Turkeys are starting to come off the roost behind me. Damn things are loud! Heard two shots by the neighbors to my right.

Little four point came out and chased that doe right by me. She wasn't having it. I could have hit em with a rock.

2 more does and I am covered up in turkey. I counted 48 of them and there are some I can't see. They will ruin a good hunt. I can't move without spooking these bastards. Some of them are about 20 feet in front of me.

Turkey finally left. 4 does came in close and one of them busted me. I tried to get too cute with the grunt call. She's blowing and stomping all over the place. That might be it. I'll give a few more minutes.

Left the stand too early this morning. When I got back to camp jeff and I turned around and saw a nice 8 in the field I was huntimg. We made our way back down theer but he got away before we could get in close enough. Then 4 does got chased by two young bucks right on top of us. Jeff shot a big doe from about 20 yards. Then we pursued the others and walked right up on the 8 within 40 yards. He lived to see another day. Decent but not second day out decent. We skinned and quartered his up and got it on ice. Back to town for lunch and a quick nap.
Just got back to the brush blind from yesterday morning. We will see how the afternoon is here.

4 does and a bobcat sighting. I turned and looked behind me and it was just standing there staring at me from about 30 yards. As soon as I moved to bring up my gun the sucker was gone. No shot. Dammit!

Shot fired!
Damn red hog came to 10 yards. Busted him and he spinned in three circles squealing and piled up 20 yards to my right. I will leave him there.
Goal for this hunt is a doe in the ice chest and backstrap on the grill tonight. Still freezing! That hog probably scared everything off for miles. May be here a while.
