Had a better hunt this past Saturday.
Joe, my BIL, and I went out Sat morning early. We got out to the field right after dawn and dove were flying everywhere. Reed did alright, but was full of energy and all over the place. I got a double for the first time ever, and knocked down 3 birds in the first 10 minutes or so. Reed did good with all of them. Joe walked down a ways from me and scared a bunch up. I missed at the first wave of them all three times, and went to reload as fast as I could, since they were still coming. Then, like an idiot, I stuffed a shell in backwards without paying attention. I was out of commission for the next 45 minutes trying to get it out, and eventually had to take the gun apart to get it. By the time I finally got going again, Joe had 9 birds and they had quit flying. I saw about 40 fly right over head during that mess. By the time I got going again, I only got one more and we were done. Something like this happens everytime.
That afternoon, I went to the same place and took 4 other guys with me. We got out to the same field and lined up in a flyway for about 2 hours. They started coming in waves with about an hour of daylight left. Eric, my youngest sisters dude, got 11, Blake, old bball coach, got 10, I only got 7, Brandon and his buddy each got 6. Turned out to be a pretty good afternoon, and Reed did really well. I think he was a little worn out from the morning, so he wasn't as wild out there.
Had all 40 birds lined up on the tailgate with Reed for a picture, then found out the camera was dead. So no pictures. It was a good weekend though. I need to practice. I shot through 3 boxes of shells this weekend for 11 birds.
