question for Mr. finch:
Which of these three remained constant during the 3 Super Bowl victories for the Jerry Jones led Dallas Cowboys?
1. Coach? 2.Players? 3. Owner/General Manager?

First off, I don't really care about any NFL teams. The NFL is boring to me, that's why I bet on it, to make it interesting. Second, I hate Jerry Jones because he has ruined my former favorite NFL team. I used to be as big a Cowboys fan and the rest of y'all, until Jerry decided that he knew more about football than the coach he hired on the sidelines. When it comes to selling tickets and merchandise and building a profitable franchise he is arguably the best in any major sport. But when it comes to winning games he is near the bottom, yet he still makes the same old tired moves day in and day out. What did he do to ruin your favorite NFL team? 1. Win 3 Super Bowls 2. Build the greatest stadium in the world 3. Buy them from Bum Bright and deliver them from mediocrity.

For some teams making the playoffs is a good season, for others it is making it to the conference championship. But when you are the Yankees of football, all that matters is that you win, which Jerry has proven time and time again he doesn't know how to anymore. Let it go Finch. They'll never understand your point. I've argued the same points before to no end.

Mike, I give JJ some, not all, but some of the credit for the Cowboys in the '90s. What I am saying is that it worked once, and hasn't worked since. This is a new age in the NFL and putting 10 super stars in one room is not how you win championships. I would say the talent level in the NFL is at an all time high right now, and you don't have to have best player in the league at every position. Look at how the Pats, Colts, and Giants do it. You have a few big time players to carry your team, then you have your role players that go out and do the dirty work. The Cowboys have way too many chiefs and not enough Indians.
Stubbs- I know, I just like pissing off Cowboy fans.

I will agree with you that Jones was better in the 90's.
Back then, they drafted the majority of their talent and developed it. Now they are trying to buy most of their players and it hasn't worked yet.

Exactly. The H. Walker trade is still regarded as one of the best (if your a Cowboys fan) trades ever. If he would go back to building through the draft I may become a fan again, but as long as he is bringing in the pac mans and tos of the world count me out.

I'm fine with TO. Pacman is gone. Failed bit. Didn't lose much. You can't always win on those risky moves, but I'd have to say Leonard Davis and TO have worked.

You can't always win on those risky moves, That is exactly what I am trying to say. It worked once for JJ (Charles Haley), since then it has been failure after failure. How many times do you punch yourself in the face before you realize it hurts.

T.O. has worked. Even if he blows up now, he has been extremely productive for two plus seasons.

Wow. I'd say it worked for TO, Hamlin, Leonard Davis, Tank Johnson, Zac Thomas...should I keep going. Pac Man didn't work out, big deal. We lost a late round draft pick. Tennessee lost more than we did.

Yes you should keep going, because all of those players add up to how many playoff wins?
Don't forget trading down and getting Julius Jones when you could have had Stephen Jackson. One word, Quinthy.

I believe what Finch is saying, though, is this: Just like the Yankees have all of these successful players (A-Rod, Giambi, Damon, Petitte, Mussina, etc.) they haven't won a world series since they started relying on Free Agency as a means to acquire players.
The Cowboys have hit on a number of free agents (look at Cowtown's post) but they still cannot win a playoff game, much less the Superbowl.
There is some element of team that is lost when you hire mercenaries to fight your battles instead of guys that grow up in your system.
That said...GO COWBOYS!!!

Those guys are all ProBowlers I guess that's not good enough.
As far as drafts go, I'll take the picks of DeMarcus Ware, Jason Witten, Kevin Burnett...
One guy they did miss during the draft was Tony Romo. Oh yeah, everyone else in the NFL did too. How'd he work out?
