uhh, how many wyoming alumni live in the metroplex? About 4.
Tulsa? about 90% within driving distance. Same goes with all of them. These people would go to games because they are close.
Everyone of the schools I listed above has more history than most of the MWC. And the 2 that have one iota of history (mormon U and mormon U lite) have extremely negative connotations and no one around here cares about them.
TCU would continue to get their 25-35k a game of frog fans, but would add another 5-10k of visiting fans. They could still play a big non conference game like tceh or someone to skew their season attendence numbers (over half the stadium was red and black clad).
What it boils down to is: you would rather watch BYU than SMU, Utah over Houston, Wyoming over Tulsa, San Diego State over Rice, Colorado State over UTEP.
Not me. Not the majority of football fans in or around this state.

[quote author=matt76201 board=hotsportsonions thread=2280 post=53172 time=Rice has 4000 students. Tulsa 2000. How many would come for the game? [/quote]
students make up a very small percentage of who travels. Its alumni. You can't honestly tell me that there are more San Diego State fans (are there any at all) that come to Ft. Worth than there would be Rice, Houston, or Tulsa.
You conveniently picked the two smallest schools in the proposed BAC (Bad Ass Conference) to make your argument.
You forgot Houston has over 30,000.
Oh, and North Texas is one of the top 10 biggest undergrad enrollments in the nation...number 7 to be exact.

Good points by all, I support the BAC.
Another thing is in the BAC you would have a lot of Texas kids playing against other Texas kids. Most of these kids family's can't afford to go to games in Utah or Cali or Wyoming, but they could definitely afford to go to Houston or Dallas or Tulsa.
I think the BAC would be much better than the MWC. Texans love their football, why not put as many regional teams together as you can.

Oh, and North Texas is one of the top 10 biggest undergrad enrollments in the nation...number 7 to be exact. You conviently used my example to try to make a point... Tulsa would NOT bring anyone to a game. Tulsa is full of law and engineering nerds who have zero interest in football. Our attorney at work went to law school at Tulsa. After their win over SMU last fall I asked if her lawyer pants were going crazy over the win. She replied with "I don't even freaking care about Tulsa sports." She grew up in West Texas and is a Red Raider supporter. She said the only ones that cared about Tulsa was the locals. Do you think the local inbreds would make the trip to the big city w/ $4 gas? Houston doesn't travel well either. It's a proven fact. Last time they were in Ft. Worth in 2004 you could hear a mouse fart in their section. Last season SMU brought MAYBE 1000 people to Fort Worth. UNT can't even get 20000 people to go to the home games. What makes you think they'd make the trip down 35? Last time they played at TCU (99 or 2000, I think) they had about 500. Oh, and last time Tech played in Fort Worth, the best estimates were 12-14k Tech fans for the 2nd-most attended game in AGCS. Far from half.

Did you just use what a women that you work with said to try and prove a point. I'm sure she is a huge football fan. Not to mention she is t-shirt tceh fan, that is about as low as one can get. Nice try but that quote right there pretty much solidifies that you have no clue what you are talking about.

She was my Tulsa reference. She grew up just outside of Lubbock-not exactly a t-shirt fan. She met her husband at Tulsa and apparently he doesn't care either. They went to the Tech game when they were here and went to a couple others last year. If Tulsa were playing in Dallas against SMU they wouldn't care at all just like every other Tulsa alum.

umm, I watched that tceh game... there was waaaaay more than 12k tceh fans there.
Also, Houston travels a ton better than horny frog does... of course you can't blame horny frog for not travelling to utah or wyoming....which brings us back to the original point. NO ONE WANTS TO WATCH THOSE SCHOOLS!!
UNT vs TCU would have more people in the stands than ANY tcu game last year sans when tceh overran the dump that is Amon G Carter. No doubt in my mind.
Another point...I was at that bowl game in Houston....Houston had over half of the fans there. You are sorely mistaken.
this is another case of facts getting in the way of Stubbs' argument.

Again... I still want to hear Stubbs say that more people from San Diego State will come to a game at Amon G Suckitude Stadium than people from Tulsa.
Do you really think that more fans from Wyoming will be there than from UNT? from Rice? From SMU? From La Tech?
Seriously, do you know how stupid that sounds?

Not the majority of football fans in or around this state. As corporate sully would say; this is spot on. The BAC would raise interest in all the mid major teams in Texas and the surrounding states.. What's good for SMU is good for TCU is good for Houston...

So because you know two t-shirt tceh fans that went to Tulsa they represent the rest of the alumni? There are three reasons why your source is ridiculously awful. 1. It's a woman 2. She is a t-shirt tceh fan 3. She is a lawyer You really need to get better sources.
