My wife picked up a Nikon D5100 DLSR Camera yesterday. I was unaware of what a $900 camera looked like. imaging.nikon.com/lineup/dslr/d5100/I just thought they were pretty much all the same. She bought the cadillac. Do any of you Peso Heads have any experience operating such a fancy rig? Can you tell me what kinds of results I should expect from this camera? I know it takes HD Video and can record sound with a microphone accesory plugged in. I will be testing it's photo capability tonight in my garden and may even take some good gun photos for you guys to see. The D5100 incorporates an approx. 921k-dot, 7.5-cm (3-in.), wide-viewing-angle, vari-angle LCD monitor that realizes comfortable movie and Live View shooting. The LCD monitor opens horizontally from 0° to 180° and flips up and down from +180° to -90°. Highly improved operability when shooting from a high or low angle allows you to shoot with a stable posture while confirming composition even if shooting from ground level. You can enjoy new, creative expressions by shooting from various angles and discover unique points of view. WOW

My dad bought my mom a Nikon for their anniversary a couple years ago that cost about $2300. That thing is incredible but my mom is scared to take it anywhere so she takes the one that she bought for about what you paid and it still takes great pictures. I haven't the first clue about cameras. The fancy one takes pics like the default ones you get on your computer of raindrops on a lilly pad.

I shot all kinds of pictures last night and haven't even scratched the surface of what this thing will do.
I'm impressed.
I mean I knew Nikon makes superior optics because I shoot a few of their scopes.
Nikon +1

My wife wants one of these fancy things now, but I don't want to have to carry the damn thing everywhere we go.

Yeah. I say no all the time. No need for any pointers here. There's a reason she doesn't have one of those things...
