I got this in email today, and think I'll do it. Anyone else interested in getting a team together and doing it on our own?
This Memorial Day a group of my teammates from CBRE and I will participate in a meaningful event called CARRY THE LOAD - www.carrytheload.org/dallas I am also on the event’s board this year and am very excited about how much Carry The Load has grown. In time, it will be the premier Memorial Day event across the country.
Carry the Load helps people put the meaning back into Memorial Day by organizing and conducting a 20-hour event that honors and thanks veterans and active duty service members and their families for their sacrifices. Through event participation and sponsorship, Carry the Load raises money to support nonprofit organizations that help veteran and active duty service members and their families. There will be many activities at “Base Camp” (Reverchon Park) and on Katy Trail throughout the day and night and at the end, our title sponsor, Anhueser-Busch, will be hosting an after party with Bart Crow Band playing (Max Stalling opening up). Please consider bringing your family and friends!
WHEN: Sunday, May 27th (3:30 PM) – Monday, May 28th (12:12 PM)
WHERE: Reverchon Park (Base Camp) and The Katy Trail – 3505 Maple Avenue
WHY: Our goal is for 90% of the money we raise to go directly to the nonprofits that help service members and their families. The nonprofit organizations benefiting from Carry the Load 2012 are Heroes on the Water, Assist the Officer Foundation, Friends of Dallas, Fire-Rescue and Tip of the Spear.
I’ll Carry the Load by walking while carrying a weighted pack to honor the sacrifices made by service members and their families while serving our country and communities, especially those who were wounded or killed in action. Specifically, I will be memorializing three of my classmates and friends (and heroes). You can read about them and their stories below:
- LCDR Erik Kristensen, USN (Navy Seal, KIA Afghanistan, 2005 www.navyseals.com/erik-s-kristensen),
- Maj. Doug Zembiec, USMC (KIA, Iraq, 2004…“The Lion of Fallujah” - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_A._Zembiec),
- Maj. Megan McClung, USMC (KIA, Iraq, 2006: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megan_McClung)
