I think they both have some demands that are not in the best interest for the league as a whole.

I sense that you want a well thought out, detailed summary of why I feel both sides are to blame.
I'm too lazy for that.
What do you think?

The owners and NFL execs are making more money than they can spend in 100 lifetimes today. Players aren't necessarily making their fair share, but their making enough. And the league didn't get where it is today with MLB type payrolls. I think both sides have to make some serious gives to get a deal done.
Either way, the players can't afford much of a lockout. The owners can. It's all the little people that'll be hurt from this. The facilities guys, the training staffs, and other NFL employees who will have no work to do, thus may end up losing a job.
I blame Obama just for the hell of it.

I think the owners stand to lose more than the players do. They have a lot more personal money tied up in this.
Sure, the players need the money. But the owners have a lot more bills to pay.

Dang, I was being lazy as well. Aight, here goes
Right now I blame the players for the most part, but the owners also carry some of the burden. The biggest issue for me is the rookie salary structure. As it stands, teams with the 1st-8th picks are basically held hostage by their picks because of how much money they have to invest in unproven talent. If it works out then no problem, but as is the case around half the time it doesn't work out and teams are usually left with bigger problems than they had before from having all that money tied up in one player.
As far as the 18 game schedule goes I am on the side of the players. To me more doesn't always equal better. I think 16 games is just enough that you get to enjoy football for almost half the year, but not so much that the games become less important. 18 just seems like too much to me.
As far as the money issue goes I am leaning slightly toward the owners, but I wish we had more information about how much money the owners are actually worried about. I get that the players are the ones out on the field risking their bodies, but the owners are taking pretty big risk as well. People forget that not every NFL owner is like Jerry Jones or Dan Snyder, some of the guys depend on their NFL teams to make money or they could go under.
From what I understand the problem with the money is that gross revenues are about the same, but that expense has been through the roof that last few years. If that is the case I have no problem with the Owners asking for more money.
Honestly I think the Union is over playing their hand here a little bit. I'm guessing they think if there is lock out the public will blame the Owners because they are the evil rich white men. That will be the case for some, but I think more will blame the players because they get paid pretty well to play a game. Sure it's a dangerous job, but so is crab fishing, logging, and joining the military. And those guys get paid a fraction of NFL players and have a much higher probability of getting killed.
Now that I just typed all that out I'm starting to blame the players a little more. Sure football is tough game to play, but nobody put a gun to your head and made you play.

I think they both have some demands that are not in the best interest for the league as a whole. I second this and I second that I'm too lazy to write it all out.

I think money needs to be taken away from the ridiculous rookie contracts and moved to taking care of former players and their bodies that break down at an alarming rate.

Don't know much about it, but I blame the players anyway. Stupid unions.

i thought one of the biggest reasons for the whole stink was that they were taking away the players insurance. am i wrong?
as far as the money issue, its 2 sets of millionaires arguing over who's gonna get that last penny from the 50/50 split.
both sides are to blame.
shortened version of my thoughts because work calls...i may revisit when i have time.
