What a frusterating game.
Bad:
It shows how important Columbo and Kozier are to the O-line. Alex Barron was bad. Holding calls at the end of each half, each with obvious bad results.
Afte Alex's holding at the end of the first half the coaching staff has to call a kneel. After they try a play and they get knocked back 10 yards there is no need to try something fancy. So, coaching was dumb.
In my opinion running every single offensive play in the shotgun doesn't seem right. I dont know.
Dumb penalties. Scandricks actually ended up ok cause they screwed u pthe next FG attempt, but still. Again the holding calls. Offsides. Delay of game. Block in the back.
Again with the play calling : the toss plays. I hate them. Especially on third down. In the NFL the defense is just too fast to make the toss worth it. And if you are going to do the toss, dont use your slowest running back. It worked once but it failed more than once.
The play calling at the start of the game was dumb. Short pass after short pass. As I read somewhere, "Jason Garrett's playbook was skipping." They tried to force it to Dez to early to often.
Good:
Defense aside from a couple dumb penalties. Only let up 2 field goals (maybe should have been 3). D Ware and Spencer are beasts and were causing havok.
Running game was better than the preseason but still not as good as it should be.
Dez needs to go ahead and pick up Roy's pads like he was supposed to....... and drop them at the curb.
Bad, dumb loss.

A few thoughts on your thoughts...
At the end of the half I am not kneeling it. Hindsight is always 20-20. What happened there was Romo being Romo. He tried to create and it backfired. That is what you love about him, its what you hate about him.
The toss is not a designed outside play, therefore speed is not the main factor. The toss is a north and south play. You get the ball take a few steps outside and put your foot in the ground and go north and south. It is one of the most successful plays in football at any level. It was even successful last night on more than one occassion so I'm not sure what you're talking about there.
Play calling at the beginning of the game is to see how the defense will line up to certain formations and to set plays up for later in the game. It always makes me laugh when people gripe at that. Its by design. Sometimes you'll bust some plays early because good players make plays, but typically your first drives are setting yourself up for the rest of the game.
I agree they tried to force it to Dez too much. I think they were just hoping he'd shake loose and make something early.
Just my thoughts on your thoughts.

Dont worry guys. The Texans will whoop the Redskins for you next week and finish what y'all never really started in that game.

I dont mind a hail mary at the end of the half, in fact if the offense/QB is in range to the endzone then I want them to try it. However, after the holding penalty there was no chance of getting it close to the endzone therfore I dont think it work it to try something cute. Coaches should have called it off, Romo should have thrown it away or just slid once there was nothing down field, or Choice should have just fallen to the ground. I know hindsight is 20/20 and I thought about that last night, but if they are that far away I dont like the risk.
Maybe it was the sweep that I dont think works or was called in poor places (like on 3rd and 4 in the 4th quarter.).
There is still issues I have with the play calling. It just didn't seem right. Took them a half to throw the ball over 10 yards it seemed like.

A toss is a sweep. 3rd and 4 is what that play is designed for. Seriously, you can't hate on a play because it doesn't work every time. Those guys on the other side are pros, too.
The sweep is a great play and the Cowboys have a lot of success running it.
Taking a knee would have been fine, but I wouldn't. I'd run a play because with the explosive players the cowboys have (Felix Jones, Austin, Dez, etc) you never know when they'll bust one.
You can have any issues you want with the play calling, I was just trying to tell you what I saw from my perspective. I am by no means an expert, just like you aren't. I do have a little insight, though.

I have no comment on this game. Bad all around. Defense was respectable, but bad other than that. Oline needs help...quickly.

The defense was more than respectable.
The offense moved the ball really well at times, but again had trouble scoring, same as last year.
O-line is terrible. They need to get healthy quick.
Romo looked pretty danged good. He moved them down the field at the end very effectively.
I would have cut that Tackle before he got on the plane. He never even tried to block on that last play, he held from the get go.
The kicking situation is not good at all.
More Felix.
Less Roy Williams.

Any word on Ware? I can't remember if he ever came back in or not.

Haven't heard.
But that is what happens when you duck your head. He's lucky he didn't get hurt worse.

Dez looked good, especially considering he hasn't played in a game since early last year at OSU. I love how the people that stodd up for Roy used the excuse that him and Romo just haven't had enough time to mesh and get on the same page. Then Dez comes in here in his first game as a pro and him and Romo looked fine for the most part. Dez caught a couple that looked like vintage balls that Roy would drop. I Roy doesnt mind being number 3.

Haven't heard. But that is what happens when you duck your head. He's lucky he didn't get hurt worse. For some reason I watched a few NFL games yesterday and saw a handful of guys do the same thing. Has everyone forgotten how to tackle? I watched about 20 college games on Saturday and didn't see it once. Since they're pros do they not have to be reminded of fundamentals?

Well Ware was in an weird postion cause he got blocked into the runner and was already on his knees I think. He still could have kept his head up but it was in such an unorthodox position he was in.
