I've got some comments about the game. I'll try to post them later if I have time.

the kick off guy seemed ok. No kicks out of bounds. Maybe have him on the field goal unit?

The kick off guy was awful.
He has zero consistency on FG's.
There is a lot more to kick offs than you realize. He was terrible.

The two we have are soccer players and have extremely live legs. The problem is they are soccer players and chili up in pressure. Even our kick off guy screwed up a deep left kick off 3 times and it messed our coverage up royally. When he kicked off correctly they started at the 9. When he choked they started at their 40 and their 35. Not good. You tell those Mojado's if they don't get the damn kicking situation under control, you'll make sure their avacado boat ride back to Panama will not be a pleasure cruise.

Interesting game to digest. I'll just scattershoot.
The LBs were outplayed and LD Bell appeared to be a little bigger and stronger but this was about as winnable a game as could be. Several miscues turned into points the other way. Aside from the 4 points there was left on the field by the PK, there was a muff of a punt when Bell was deep in their end (the punt was inside the 10). Bell recovered around the 45 and a few plays later put up 6. The returner greatly misjudged the punt and came in sprinting on the ball to make the catch. It's the first game. Much of the team seamed to have first game jitters. Judging by the talent on the team these kinds of things won't happen in the critical later weeks.
The Bell RB is something else. Part of it was the O-Line that won the battle in the trenches. Part of it was poor tackling (as a result of being beaten off the ball; it's hard to tackle the ball carrier laterally). Part of it was the patience and vision of the kid.
The LB redzone defense was OUTSTANDING. Hats off to DBCJMF and the rest of the defensive staff for the job they did inside the 20. Great calls. Good execution. I believe Bell kicked 3 FGs that could have easily been TDs.
Interesting coverage schemes. They had me saying "what the?" in the middle of the play (not necessarily questioning but being confused more than anything) and a few times they got burned but for the most part after the play I said "huh, I liked that." When they did get burned it came down to execution rather than being outcoached or Bell being better. Again, it's the first game. The recognition and reaction was slow. There was once were the CB dropped back and the SS came over to cover the wide out. The SS was slow to react and it went for a big gain. The safety definately had the speed to cover the WR. Come week three and four the kids will be rocking and rolling. The talent is certainly there. Adjustments will be made. I don't see this being problematic in the long term.
That #17...I like his size and speed.
Procedure penalties were minimal. Good sign. The refs were close to letting things get out of hand and they finally reeled things in when neccessary. Bell is skilled in the cheap shot.
I think what impressed me the most was the resolve of those kids. Given all the special teams miscues they could have easily folded but they never once gave in to their emotions and kept playing hard all game. The mental strength they displayed is something I hope they can carry all through the season. More talented teams would have given up but not these kids. Those are the type of people coaches love to coach, teachers love to teach, co-workers love to work with, and lovers love to love.
I wouldn't say it was a moral victory because moral victories are reserved for teams lacking in talent with an impossibly long row to hoe. Not these Broncos. Fischer said 7-3 was a reality. I laughed on the inside. I think I'm going to be wrong. Good group of kids. They still have a ways to go towards playing to their potential and reaching their goal but they seem to eager to learn and love to play the game of football.
In anything you do, you're either going forward and moving back. The rest of the district better take notice because these ponies are charging straight ahead.

My bad...I debated what to say. I always wondered why SMU allowed people to call them ponies. It would be like calling TU the calves.

you're pretty much on.
Our coverage schemes aren't anything complicated. We ran a lot of man, some combo coverage, some cover three, and some quarters. What may be a little weird looking is that we roll or stem to where we are going to be almost every play. When we are sending a stunt we sometimes will shift the coverage to account for it, but that is normal.
The only screw ups in coverage came in the red zone in an empty set. They motioned to it and it confused our OLB and CB. Other than that our coverage was decent, although it wasn't tested much.
