Quit trying to feel sorry for SMU. They got their wrist slapped a few times, turned around to daddy and shouted "that didn't hurt." They got what they deserved. They thought they were bigger than life. They were soon brought back to reality.
TCU put their hands in the cookie jar and when Jim Wacker got wind of it he turned in the university himself. Immediately afterwards 11 starts were ruled ineligible. Wacker knew they couldn't get by with what SMU was doing and not get caught. At that time it had been almost 20 years since they'd been to a bowl and he put a stop to ir right away. Skip had a good point in that they essentially came out of nowhere and had no allies in the NCAA or the conference for that matter. Norm also made good point when he said that the had no idea how to curtail it and keep it contained. TCU knew it's roll. SMU didn't.

Don't act like TCU was innocent. Neither was Wacker. They were cheating. To assume otherwise is ridiculous.
Wacker turned them in when he realized he could not get away with it ANYMORE.
TCU was as dirty as any team in the SWC, with the exception of SMU.

Yeah, Wacker knew the gig was up. The story on TCU was Chris Farkus (owner) and his Mama's Pizza boxes delivered to Kenneth Davis full of cash.

I'm not feeling sorry for anyone. Just saying that I don't think SMU did any more than anyone else. They were just the ones who hurt someone's feelings, and got ratted out. Once it went public, the NCAA had to do something, and who better to do it to than SMU, rather than A&M, tu, Arky, TCU, and others.

How do you still think SMU didn't do more than the others? Its a pretty widely accepted fact. You even admitted it yesterday.
They were all cheating. SMU took it to a whole new level...just like you said yesterday.

SMU was just plain stupid. The boosters were bragging about recruits they bought. They got caught and had a meeting in which they decided to KEEP paying players, to me the NCAA had every right to kill the program.

When other schools were on probation, do you think they were still paying players?

Had they been doing what SMU was doing they would have had the same fate. Now A&M, UT, OU, and maybe Ark were probably protecting each other but everyone else wasn't shit in the eyes those teams.

I don't think the Ags, tu, ou, or Ark were protecting each other by any means. I think they were protected by their locations. That and they were smarter. They weren't as bold and stupid.

That is a definite rules violation.
When I worked at A&M is when that rule went into effect. We used to give them a personalized "locker" and in it would be their jersey. They'd put it on and we'd take them out on the field at night time and flip the lights on and have Dave South do a highlight using their names.
We had to quit doing that stuff when that rule came into effect. Nice to know that Arkansas thinks the rules don't apply to them.
Its the SEC way, though.
