Finch - Point 1 - well taken. Nothing can be done about the lack of natural breaks. I like it.
Point 2 - there as not as much standing around as you think. My players take their breaks when the ball is out of play. If the ball is in play, we should be moving. Point 3 - Soccer people tend to shoot themselves in the foot with this attitude. I'll be the first to admit, I tend to not like most soccer people. Most have an elitist attitude. Rather than trying to help others understand the game, they view it as well since I like the most popular game in the world and you don't I'm better and smarter than you. I like to think I don't fall in that category.
Point 4 - I'm willing to bet you see about much of what you are talking abou,t in soccer as you do in other sports. When a team is down 3-0 with 3 minutes to go, they are still pushing for a goal. But when they are down 3-0 with 1 minute left, not so much. Sure, they are trying to score and not give up anymore. Same as other sports.

Every point against soccer here is pretty damn legitimate, and Meyer has agreed with several of them...so, what's the point? Do you agree with everything in other sports?

Great response, and no, you are not a soccer person...yet anyway.
To add, I'm not saying soccer players don't play hard in the last minutes of games. But in soccer if you are down by 2 with five minutes left the game it is pretty much over. Maybe you can tie, but it's pretty much impossible for you to win. In football, basketball, and especially baseball if you are within two or even three scores (say two for football) the game isn't over until the final seconds of the game. Soccer just doesn't have that.

Excellent point about the soccer elitist. I hate that guy.

That is due to the fact that ties are part of the game. Unless it's in the knockout stages of a tournament. Feel how you want about ties, but its part of the game. Since there is a small reward in a tie, some teams will play for one. I know you guys don't like that, but it is what it is. Unless ties are taken out of the game, it will always be that way. If you are looking for an example of what you are talking about, watch the second half of the US-Slovenia game. I have seen plenty of games at 1-0/2-0/2-1/3-2/etc, where the action at the end is every bit as dramatic as the ending of some of the best football, baseball, and basketball endings.

See, I don't like that whole "it's part of the game" arguement. America is telling you what to change, at least consider our opinions or we're out. (not directed at you KBK, but at the soccer establishment)

That missed Brit goal against Germany was ridiculous.
FIFA-
This is supposed to be your premier event and you run this kind of officiating out there? How do you expect the everyday American sports fan to take this sport seriously with the level of officiating we have seen in the world Cup?

Holy Crap! Another huge missed offsides call gives Argentina a goal. Is this sport somehow in a referee exchange program with professional 'rasslin?

Yea the lack of control and bad calls by the officials is ridiculous and makes it harder to watch then it already is. The way they let em lay onn the ground and cry in pain when they weren't even touched is frusterating to no end.

The missed calls will definitely lead to increased calls for some sort of video replay. The current FIFA president is against it. On the occasions we have seen, it wouldn't take much time to run to a video monitor and overturn it.

USA should just ignore this event next time around. I don't even care if we refuse to play in it. Refuse to broadcast or cover it. And refuse to pump advertising dollars and funding to it.
Then see what happens.

It would still go on. It would still be the most popular sporting event in the world.

Just got up to date on this thread, a few thoughts:
First off, my main beef with soccer is the same as finch's and Mike's mostly.
Second, Sully you lose all credibility when you bring up baseball. Baseball is a great game, but has almost every single problem that soccer does. The only reason its better is because its American. What's even funnier is that you said soccer players aren't athletes and claimed baseball players are athletes. True, most baseball players are good athletes, but baseball is the one sport that doesn't require you to be a great athlete to play it. Its the least athletic major sport behind golf, maybe. I know you love baseball, but my gosh what a horrible argument. I love it too but I see it for what it is. Its a stand around game.
But, my main reason for making fun of soccer is to get under Meyer's skin. Meyer knows that I appreciate the ability and skill it takes to play the game. I even admit that it might be (never tried) fun to play the game. Its just boring to watch and the faking and the soccer people make it unbearable.
Craig, I am also surprised meyer took the lashing for as long as he did.
