Weight is relative when comparing the sports. Soccer players can't weigh 250 pounds. There is no way they could play. A 180 lb soccer player running into a soccer player who weighs 17o lbs at full speed has power behind it. Are you telling me that when a guy goes up for a header and another guy comes in full speed with an elbow aimed at his head and a knee in the middle of his back there is no power in it. That's laughable. Your arguments consisting of girly men really make you come off as quite lacking in intelligence. Soccer players are every bit as good of athletes as any other pro sport athlete. There are plenty of soccer players who get in, do the dirty work and don't do the things that you generalize the entire sport for. Just as in the other sports there are players who really want no part of the dirty work. Unfortunately you choose to focus on the things you don't like, b/c it makes it easier to speak poorly of a game you don't understand.

RP - i can understand how many view the game as slow. Hell even I do at times. Thing to remember is, its a 90 minute game with one 15 minute break. At times it has to be viewed as a marathon, not a sprint.
Mike - i can guarantee that soccer wants to be viewed positively by Americans. It's no secret that if America becomes big fans of soccer, there is even more money to be made. I will give you that they are slow to adapt to change. Soccer simply wants to keep things as simple as possible, and that, is causing it to fall behind other sports who have adapted to things like technology.

Thinking out of the box here, KBK but how about we increase scoring by eliminating the goal keeper? It's not like they make THAT many saves anyway. Get rid of him and scoring increases by about 5 or 6 goals a game. MORE OFFENSE is what Americans want!

Keepers make on average 5-6 saves a game. Then you have to account for shots that are blocked by defenders, so lets say another 10 shots are stopped that way.

I think the value of a goal is what makes it ok to watch at tiimes.
I'm surprised it took this long for meyer to lash out.

I picture the cartoon where a guy in a car would wreck and 4 medic would trot out there with a stretcher chanting, "hub, hub, hub, hub....!" And they load the car up on the stretcher instead of the guy.

If a team medic comes on the field to check on a player after an injury, the player must leave play, forcing his team to play a man down until the ref says he is allowed to come back on. If the stretcher comes out, same thing. I'm not sure why they use the stretcher at some of the times theyd do. Yes, it would not hurt to see a bit more toughness from some of the players in how they deal with these "injuries" they pick up. I totally understand, how that can come across to people. My players know better than to roll on the ground and fake an injury. If they are rolling around, they are coming off and not playing. I won't stand for that crap on my team. I encourage my guys to play an aggressive/rough(within the rules) game. We may not win, but the other team will know they just had to fight for everything. I also tell my guys when we get knocked down, if you stay down, you better be hurt.

Good question, kind of a long answer me.
1. There are no breaks in the game. For me I like a game that has natural breaks, that way if I get up to smoke a cig our take a piss, I know I'm not missing any action. Soccer doesn't have that, if I go to smoke for 5 min. I might miss the only action in the game.
2. The whole "they are basically running for 90 min. plus" argument. Do soccer players have to be in great shape and have great stamina, yes. But there is a lot more standing around during the game than people like to admit. Plus, if I just wanted to watch people run around in a circle I would watch track and field.
3. Soccer people. Soccer people pretty much ruin soccer for me before I even have a chance to get in to. Their attitude in defense of what they think is the greatest sport ever pisses me off to no end. I understand soccer players are great athletes, I have never disputed that. But to act like they are the greatest athletes in the world is laughable. And yes, I know soccer is the most popular sport in the world, but I fail to see what that has to do with me. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world because it requires the least amount of equipment. You need something round, no basket, no pads, no bat, just one round object and the whole neighborhood can play . Of course kids in other countries love soccer, it's the only sport they have ever played because they can't afford anything else.
4. Scoring. What do American love most about sports? Last minute drives, walk off home runs, three pointers at the buzzer. There really isn't much soccer can do about this, but I think it is one of the biggest problems with the sport. Shootouts just don't work because it is a completely different game. I want to see the offense start taking it to the defense with a minute to go, I want to see a hitter work the count against a closer who is thought to be unhittable. That's what makes sports really great, those split seconds were one team/player rises to the challenge and makes the impossible shot/catch/throw.
That's all I got for now.

Weight is relative when comparing the sports. How much force is generated during a hit is determined by the players mass times his acceleration, so a heavier player moving at approximately the same speed generates way more force. I'm not saying an elbow to the head wouldn't hurt, but football players and even basketball players experience way more powerful hits in a game than soccer players experience in a season.

Meyer is standing in the opposite end zone (80 yards behind the line of scrimmage)with this thread.

Every point against soccer here is pretty damn legitimate, and Meyer has agreed with several of them...so, what's the point?

Let me also say that I don't really have a problem with the sport itself. I do think it's boring but and needs to make some changes, but the guys that play are way more athletic than I could have ever dreamed to be and do some pretty amazing things with their feet.
It's the people that act like soccer is the end all be all of sports and if you don't think soccer is the greatest sport ever you are a dumbass and don't understand sports. That's what really sends me off the deep end when it comes to soccer.
