Quick update on the World Cup standings. Tomorrow, if the US ties Algeria, and England ties Slovenia while scoring two more goals than the US, England and the US will be tied in points and in goal differential. Any one want to guess what the next tie breaker is? That's right, a random draw between the two teams. So to decide who advances in what is supposed to be the greatest sporting event in the world, they are going to draw names out of hat.
My thought, why not make it a little more interesting. How about the team captains rock paper scissors for it, or the head coaches could have a thumb war. Now that is something I would watch.
I understand this has never happened before, and the odds of it happening tomorrow are pretty slim, but the fact that this is even an option is just plain sad.

Got screwed again on a dicey offsides call. Another disallowed goal. I don't think many people like us.

The offsides call was bullshit. Referees are told if it is as close as that call the benefit of the doubt goes to the attacker.
As for drawing the names should all things be tied, it sucks. It has happened once before in World Cup history. In every other competition there would be a replay of a game, or a playoff game to decide who goes through. However, that is just not feasible in the setup of the World Cup. So something has to be done. It would be a shitty way to go out.

I'm watching it now on fifa-soccer.info/ at work. I gotta kinda keep a low profile whilst not working.

I know its soccer, but that was one of the most intense, exciting, and awesome games I have ever seen. Holy cow. I had all but given up. If that doesn't make you want to chant USA I don't know what will.

KBK, when Donovan landed that goal Dempsey had flown over the goalie and was laying on the goal line, is that not offsides?

No, because he was not involved in the play at the point. A player can be in an offside position during play as long as they are not involved. Involvement in this case means playing the ball, or causing the defense to have deal with him while he is offside. Plus, I think he technically off the field b/c he was beyond the goal line.

What is the purpose of offsides? Seems to me that if they did away with offsides it would open up the game more and allow for more one on one with the goal keeper which would make the game way more exciting.
