This kid was lights out yesterday. 7 IP, 2 ER, 4 Hits, 14 K's, 0 BB, and only 94 pitches.
Glad they showed it on the MLB network. It was a freaking gem.

lets see how he does against a non sucktastic team though. he's good, no doubt. BUT, get him up against a team that can actually hit and we'll see if those still hold. good start for him though. he'll be one to watch.

Its still major league hitters and he still struck out 14 when only one other pitcher in the majors has done that all year. Either way I think we will have to wait for the good team, his next 5 starts are below .500 teams except maybe his last one against the Braves.

He's also the first pitcher to strike out 11+ batters while giving up no walks. His 14 strikes are the second most by a pitcher in their debut. J.R. Richards of the Astros had 15, and a guy from way back when also had 15. ESPN is full of useful info.

Did anyone else watch it? The movement on all his pitches is crazy.

I caught some of it. I was int the process of assembling a boat-shaped sandbox. But yea, his curve is ridiculous and his fastball is quite fast. And a dirty changeup.

BUT, get him up against a team that can actually hit and we'll see if those still hold. good start for him though. he'll be one to watch. He is the real deal. I saw him a couple times in college against TCU. They were a very selective team last year and he made them look silly. He made some of the Pirates look silly. Like Craig said, no one else has struck out more than 10 against Pittsburgh all year. I don't recall the last time I've seen ANYONE have command of 4 pitches like that in a MLB game. He was around the plate all night and the ones that missed didn't miss by much. Most umpires will give him that pitch if he continues to hit it. Had that been Greg Maddox on the hill he would have struck out 20. Zero walks will tell you something. Even the umpire was fooled on several of his curveballs. His sinker is nasty. I've never seen Mariano Rivera's bite that much and he's regarded as having the best sinker of all-time. The mixing of his pitches was dazzling. He'd go from a 99 mph fastball to an 82 mph curveball that fell off the table to a 92 mph sinker that just disappeared 6 feet in front of the plate. I think he'll be around for a long time. His motion doesn't cause much stress on his arm. They kept comparing him to Kerry Wood. I grew up with Kerry Wood. Kerry Wood is no Stephen Strasburg. You look at Wood and he was mostly arm. He had a jerky 3/4 motion that you don't see in righties. Strasburg stands tall in the leg kick, drives with his right leg, and keeps his elbow high. His mechanics are almost flawless. There is very little effort in his motion. The guy is a freak.

He was crazy good last night. I think he's going to be a stud.
But don't forget, a lot of guys have success right out of the box as rookies until the hitters get to see them a little more. I don't think this guy is like other rookies, though.
