We kicked this thing off in January and have been down on our luck, but it's picking up now. Same rules as last year. Here are the results so far. 6 trips down.
Late Jan - Joe Pool - Freezing cold and windy. Fischer catches one almost 4 lber. I zeroed. Fisch-1, Sully-0.
Early Feb - Joe Pool - same conditions. Skunked. F-1, S-0.
Early Feb - Grapevine - Cloudy, Cold, Windy, Miserable, Shitty. Skunked. Electronics on the boat are starting to act up. Blow-out and lost spare hitch on trailer. F - 1, S - 0.
Mid Feb - Graham - Cloudy, Cold, Windy, Miserable, Shitty. Skunked. Starting a really bad pattern. Electronics on the boat are still acting up. F-1, S-0.
Mid Feb - Grapevine - Sunny, clear, calm day. Fischer gets a flat on the trailer on the way over. We stop to change it in the Bass Pro parking lot. Get on the water an hour later than planned. Weather turns real bad on us about an hour later. Storm blowing in. Wind howling. 6 ft rollers in the main lake beat us up on the way back. We run in and in the process take 4-5 waves over the boat. We're soaked in 40 degree water. Miserable. Next wave comes over and takes a rod and reel down to the bottom of the lake with it. We realize how stupid we are for being out there and get in and off the water as soon as we can. Electronics on the boat go out for good. Get out of the water, and are soaked and freezing cold. Near hypothermic. Go home. Skunked. No fish, and to top it off, we realize I misplaced the spare tire mount somewhere while we changed the flat. Worst trip ever. F-1, S-0.
We take about a month and a half hiatus. Never want to fish again. Then, mid March rolls in and hear about good fishing reports again. Here we go.
March 19 - Lake Athens - Crisp cool morning, warm and calm. We meet at 5:30 AM in Seagoville to drive to Athens. On the way over Fisch has another trailer flat. Changes the tire on the Interstate and is 30 mins late picking me up. Get on the water 45 mins later than planned. Then we catch fish steadily through the day. 10 hrs, 10 fish. Fischer caught 7, I got 3. Nothing of real size. Finally, a decent trip for a change. F-8, S-3.
March 28 - Alvarado - Cool, windy day, 25-30 mph gusts. Tiny lake, shitty conditions. Never been there before. 3.5 hrs on the water. I got 2 small ones, and fisch zeroed. F-8, S-5.
I've got some catch-up to do.
