Let's revive this one, shall we? What was the inspiration behind the arrangement on Atlantic City? I can see some slight similarities from some live performances with the E Street Band but it's still quite different. Did Murder Incorporated have any influence in the arrangement? BTW, RP&50PR make Wikipedia. They have officially hit the big time. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_City_(song)

Mike, we got new shirts in this week. They are sweet.
The arrangement for Atlantic City just sort of happened. The steel thing at the beginning comes from Zach's delayed out pad that he plays live over the intro. He is basically trying to imitate a steel guitar with a delay and volume pedal. The first verse....it's cooler to wait to bring the band in because this song can easily start to sound like the same thing over and over. There isn't a lot of dynamic. So we wanted to wait to bring it in as long as we could, but not wait until the chorus - that would be weird sounding to me. Anyway, the chorus is pretty straight ahead, as is the second verse. The third verse is cool and the drums change a little bit and there is the stop. Again, something to make any verse recognizably different from another verse is a plus for this song. The bridge has the big hits, which are basically there just to set up Zach's huge ripping solo. For some reason those hits are hard for me to count, and I feel like I'm going to mess them up half the time. Something about where the count is when I quit singing is awkward for me. It goes "...everything that dies someday comes back" 4 1 2 3 FOUR AND The first 4 feels like it should be a 1 to me for some reason. Then the other thing that gives this songs it's character is Zach's playing. He came up with parts like he would a song I wrote. He didn't use any guitar lines from Bruce version, live or recorded. If they're similar it's coincidence.

New shirts is a good, strong reason to come to the show this Thursday. I will take two in case I spill my funnel cake on one.

Thanks for your answer. Great insight. The similarities are mostly melodic but it may be just me fishing for some connections. There are about 30 versions on You Tube. Some of them start out with the band. A couple wait like you guys do but y'all's is decidedly different. I was wondering about Murder Inc. because of the intro-nothing about the rest of the song sounds similar.

Matt is famous for it. You should have seen him last night with Kerry Wood's parents.

If one wasn't going to be able to make it to a show for a while but wanted to get a shirt before then, how would one go about getting it.

What situation did you have with Kerry Woods or his parents?
