Now all y'all need are a couple of beers and then y'all can talk about how this use to be an easy fix but now with all the computers and what not it is too damn complicated.

Mine's not knee-jerk. I've blown an oil pump and didn't lose an engine. But I did blow an engine due to lack of precipitation...
I've replaced just about everything there is to replace on a vehicle before. I'm no expert but I have picked up a thing or too.
Oil pump Fuel pump-PITA! Carbureator Master cylinder-had it replaced by a guy who turned out to be a worse shade tree mechanic than I am. Bastard left air in my brake line and I found out the hard way going down Dallas Drive in Denton...thankfully the light at Teasley was green and I coasted into the Racetrak Parking lot. Brake rotors-got a scar on my forehead from it-long story Brake pads Manifold Water pump Radiator Radiator hoses Fuel filter-$5 part but a big PITA depending on the model. Head gaskets-maybe I'm just retarded but that was the second pain biggest PITA Engine Transmission
I did just about all that either on my own or with help except for the engine, transmission, and gas pump. I started on the oil pump then handed off to someone smarter than me in that regard.
And all this is just under the hood. Don't get me started on electronics, door handles, radios, guage housings, alarms, and every little thing that could ever go wrong with a vehicle. I'm not an expert by any means...I'm just a little cheap and can follow directions.
Thankfully I haven't had to go under the hood since September of '05 and I still have 38000 miles until I have to.

That our something about not having metric tools. Genius, I'm using that next time Jen asks me to fix something.

Yeah, I won't dare do the work myself on my truck now. I maintain that GM trucks from '88 to '96 were the easiest vehicles ever to work on. Even still, Chevy has gotten it right as far as under the hood accessibility. My dad and brother have Ford's and it looks like a cluster under the hood.

Do little hands make it easier for you to work on vehicles Stubbs?
My point I'm arriving at here is .... I could use your rebuttal also as a copout for working on newer vehicles.

Not really...I would lose nuts and screws and washers all time.

The one thing that kills me is these damn banana hands I've got. Sure they are great for reaching in with one finger and fishing out a dropped washer that landed on the frame or what have you, but as far as being able to turn a wrench in a tight spot, you can forget about it. I have to use all of the awkward extensions for odd angles... It sucks.

Leave it to the resident Mexican. I replaced a fuel pump once...biggest PITA of my life...almost.
