And the crazy guy who gave you a ride. I'm picturing Freakshow from Harold and Kumar.

Ok so on the way to lubbock my oil pressure gauge was dancing around a little bit. Checked the oil several times, it was all good. The van wasn't running hot or anything so I called my Dad and he said to roll with it, it was probably just a sensor or something. The next day in BFE it starts sounding really bad and dies going down the road - after that it wouldn't even turn over. My guess is maybe the oil pump went out, engine's ruined. Time for a new van. So we wait around for about an hour on the side of the road until the wrecker takes us to a truck stop. Wait there for 4 more hours until we can get a ride to Abilene where we can rent a car. The ride to Abilene was as terrified as I have ever been in a car. At one point the guy falls asleep while driving down the interstate. I have to steer the truck from the shotgun seat while I try to get the dude awake. It was VERY wheels off. By some miracle we make it to abilene and rent a car. Got home around 10 or 10:30. Left Lubbock at 10am. It sucked. Oh also I had to drive back to sweetwater to pick up the trailer today. Also sucked. And let's not forget the Strangers just got spanked by the Blow Jays. FML.

If it was the oil pump...I doubt it.

Brooks has a picture on that facebook. Is that the wheels off guy that drove you to Abilene? Or is that the friendly wrecker driver?

If it was the oil pump...I doubt it. But then again, I don't know sh1t about cars. The oil pump itself is nothing. That's just a few hundred bucks depending on the make and manufacturer. An oil pump going out can cause some collateral damage that could get worse-i.e. blown engine. Most pumps go for around $100. The labor is what gets you and I suspect on a van it's a pain in the ass. It all depends on what happened after it went out. Did the engine lock up from the heat (lack of lube) or throw a rod? If so, you're probably going to need an engine change and have to start at the back of the field. If it started to go out and was driven for quite a while then they might be in trouble. If it was caught quickly then it might not be too expensive.

I concur.
My guess is RP blew the engine because of a lack of lubrication due to a bad oil pump. Always trust your gauges.
