Yesterday Sully and I had our first ever fishing tournament out on Lake Grapevine.
It was pretty tough going, but Sully carried the team on his back.
He landed the first fish pretty early in the day, but it ended up being a slot fish (if the fish is between 14-18 inches you cannot weigh them) so we had to throw it back.
After that, he snagged a fish that was under 14 inches, which is called a swimmer.
So we keep plugging, and plugging, and plugging. Sully sticks one more slot fish and throws him back. Now we are getting pretty frustrated. We plug all the way until 15-20 minutes before the weigh in, only having one little dink in the livewell.
We go to a new spot to try for the last 15 minutes and it got exciting. Sully snagged another good swimmer, then I stick a little swimmer. Now we have 3 fish, 10 minutes till weigh in. Sully sticks one more, to give us a total of 4, before we had to high tail it back to the weigh in.
We ended up right in the middle of the pack of 45+ boats. We weren't the best, but definitely not last.
All in all it was a fun day, and tournaments are an absolute blast.

Yes. It was awesome. Sitting in the cove with all those other boats before safe light was cool. Then speeding off in a race to your first fishing spot was awesome. Good times. We made it interesting at the end, but never could hook that big one we needed to get in the money. Respectable turn out though. If there wasn't that slot limit, we would have had about 5+ more pounds in the boat.

I thought we'd look like a couple of rookies, but we could pass for pros compared to some of those yahoos. I was nervous about the ramp with all those people and other boats/trucks around, but we launched and loaded in record time. One guy that loaded up ahead of us knocked off the side mirror and scraped the front fender. I'm glad I wasn't that guy.

Seeing as it was my truck you were backing down the ramp.

That's what I'm saying. If it does ever happen, you should take it in stride like that other guy did.

It wouldn't be that big a deal. I'm sure you have insurance.
Who am I kidding? You could give me cash for the repairs right on the spot.

Your insurance should cover it.

Nice
Sounds like you men had a good time. Good to hear you did well on the ramp Sully, one of my biggest pet peeves is people that don't know how to get on and off the ramp.

I used to get pretty nervous about it. Mainly the narrow ramps that should fit two, but are pretty tight. The last few trips got me over that.

Your insurance should cover it. It would, but only if you are uninsured. No reason to have my rates go up because you bashed my mirror.
