Negotiations have broken down between Leach and TT. Seems the money is ok, but the devil is in the details.
The sticking points mainly revolve around how much money Tech has to pay Leach if the school fires him and how much Leach would pay Tech if he should accept another job and buy out his contract with the Raiders.
Under Leach’s current contract, he has a $500,000 buyout clause. Under the new proposal presented by Tech athletic director Gerald Meyers, Leach would have to pay Tech $300,000 for each year remaining on his contract.
Also in the new contract proposed by Tech, Leach is only guaranteed 12 percent of the total contract; under his current deal, Leach is guaranteed 40 percent of the total.
Tech also wants ownership of the coach’s personal property and naming rights, and also wants his revenue from speaking engagements.
I'm backing Leach in this one. tech is trying to screw him.

I agree with stubbs, I think the only chance he really had was BYU.
By the way, I think that leach is trying to screw the university... they have to pay 4.5 to fire him, he only has to pay 500k to leave.

They need him more than he needs them. What had Tech ever done in football before Leach?

what had leach ever done as a head coach before tceh?
That excuse doesn't fly. If they needed him more than he needed them, he would be gone now. Fact of the matter is, they are calling his bluff. They know no one wants him.

Tech is the only place where he has been a head coach. Before that he was OC at Kentucky then at OU.
If Tech is so sure no one else wants Leach, why wouldn't they go ahead and concede on the buyout issue? According to you, he can't get a job anywhere else.

because that could change...its the way business works. Cover yourself.
As of now, he cannot get another job.
You are right, this is his first head coaching position. tceh took a chance on him, gave him a shot, allows things that no other institution will allow, etc. They have every right to receive compensation if he somehow gets another job.

Which is what Leach is doing. Covering himself. As it is now, Tech is going to have to either:
1) Fire Leach-which will alienate their fan base and football team. 2) Let Leach coach the remaining two years of his contract-which will hurt recruiting because other teams will use his contracts status against him.
It's their call.

I am not saying leach shouldn't have a severence package. I am saying tceh should have a fair buyout as well.
They have already hurt their recruiting with this mess. Its hurting both leach and tceh.

How about the stipulation that gives Tech "ownership of the coach’s personal property and naming rights, and also wants his revenue from speaking engagements."
Seems like they are trying to control him.
