I know I'll sound like a liberal but I support the coach's firing-but not for the reasons the school gave. It was excessive and obviously his goal was to run it up on the other team. Dallas Academy is a school for kids with learning disabilities...not the cliche ADD but serious issues like dyslexia and whatnot. These girls have probably been ridiculed and made fun of their entire lives-that's why they're there. They probably have self-esteem issues. In all the practice footage they've shown I've only seen them make only one basket. They've been blown out by 40-50 points on a regular basis but nothing like this. There comes a point where it's too much. I've read that they had a full-court press on the team in the middle of the 3rd with most of their starters still in the game. When is it enough? 50-0? 60-0? The coach was feeding his own ego. It's girl's basketball...get a stinkin' life.

I support the coach's firing-but not for the reasons the school gave. The reasons you gave are the same reasons the school gave. Also, dyslexia has zero effect on the ability to play basketball, and ADHD is one of the Learning Disabilities that the school caters to. I support the firing because the school didn't feel like he did what he was hired to do. Obviously his job description contained more than just winning games. It's their perogative to fire the guy. Also, he was quoted in the papers saying he disagreed with the school's stance on the game. You undermine your boss in the media, you're gonna get canned.

The school has petitioned to have the game forfeited to the other team. The quote was something like winning without respect/honor isn't really winning.

They fired him because of his response to the school's response. I would have fired him w/o giving him a chance to respond.
I was referring to the cliche diagnosis of ADD/ADHD. Schools are 1/2 full of these according to parental diagnosis.
Dyslexia does hamper a person's play in any sport. A player can look up at the board and read the score wrong. But in this case, a doulbe zero is the same no matter what angle you look at it.

Current radio peronality on The Fan Calvin Hill, former Aggie, has been defending the coach all week. Note that is daughter played for the winning school. I havent found much to agree with when it comes to Calvin Hill's opinions. Him and K-Scott usually end up arguing about something during every segment.

Read the letter he wrote in the DMN today. He claims he did everything he could not to rub it in. I don't care that they won 100-0. He played his entire bench. Sat in a 2-3 zone from the mid 1st quarter on. What are you supposed to do? Play with 3 players intentionally, and let the other team score? The school is wrong for apologizing.

"Sat in a 2-3 zone from the mid 1st quarter on."
I thought he stayed in a full court press deep into the second half? Also I heard his best player didn't come out until the fourth. If what he says is true then I agree, the school is definitely wrong, if not then this guy has got some problems.

Isn't the point of playing the game, to get a W at the end? If it got under their skin for losing by 100 points, maybe the coach should have had all of his players foul out, then they could have stopped the wound from bleeding as much. Kill it before it grows. Also, the other coach could have utilized a little tact in dishing out that ass whooping. I think at 50-0, I would have given the thought of a forfeit a fair look.

I think next time I do something like this on Xbox I will voluntarily step down. I've got a case of the guilties over what I did to UC-Davis a couple years ago.

I haven't seen all accounts of what happened, but I can't imagine someone in their right mind going with the full court press until the fourth in this situation.

The story I read said that he was pressing deep into the fourth. This is the first I heard of him playing his bench, etc.
Stubbs, you aren't going to convince me that dyslexia has any real effect on a basketball game.
Forfeiting would have been just as bad
The point of playing a game is to win, yes. Not to beat an obviously outmatched team by a hundread. When they were up 59-0 at the half, I am pretty sure they could have called the dogs off.

What goes around comes around.
In little league we once got beat pretty bad by the team that Kerry Wood played for. They were pooring it on pretty bad. I remember to this day how mad my dad was. They only played their scrubs their mandatory two innings and played their badasses most of the game. They were stealing bases. Taking extra bases. One of their coaches was even trying to steal signs. Anyway, the next year Kerry moved on but they were still the favorite to win the league. We beat them like 35-3 or something. My dad gave our kids equal playing time. All hitting. No stealing bases. It really didn't mean much to me but my dad still takes a lot of pride in that game because he hated the fact that his players were humiliated the way they were the year before. He quoted the Karate Kid to us after the game-"what goes around, comes around." I guess it did. I hope this coach at Dallas Academy get to exerience that one day.
