I know...I either have to leave him outside all day, or get someone to go let him out in the middle of the day.

you need to rig up a little 10 by 10 foot area that is escape proof and let him stay in that all day.
The crate is the quickest way to house train a dog, because he will avoid soiling himself if at all possible. But he is just a pup and if he stays in it too long, he will have to go. And if he does it more than a few times, you might as well not even crate train, because he will learn that soiling himself is alright, its the only way.
You can buy some chicken wire, or cheap chain link and make a small pen that is pretty solid. I did that for Gus. Its pretty cheap, and that way you don't retard his training.

I, technically, still have a job. So I won't be able to do it. But I'm sure there are hiring services of people who will.

I looked into it. It's $16 a day for one 30 minute visit. Not too bad, but shit, I'd go broke. I'm going to make him a little place outside.

If I didn't work from home when Gordon was a puppy, I wouldn't have gotten him. The timing was perfect.

Yeah, you gotta make him something. Crates are genius, but they have to be able to shit and piss somewhere else. There is no bigger beating than cleaning a soiled crate. When Drum was little, he had a habit of leaving me a gallon of vomit in the crate to clean up everyday. Little asshole...
