We had a college coach from Oklahoma (not OU) come in yesterday. He claims that Denver offered Stoops 9 million a year for 3 years to be their head coach. Supposedly, Stoops said he will wait until after the MNC game to make a decision.
I don't think I would turn any job down for that much coin.
On the other hand, I don't think its true, and I don't think Stoops is going anywhere.

I think he just got a big check from OU for staying there for 10 years or however long it's been. So, he has fullfilled that part of his contract. I believe what the Okie says. I think Stoops would take it. I also believe he would fail. Big difference between coaching college and pro.

The only one I can think of that has succeeded off of the top of my head is Jimmy Johnson, and he actually ran an NFL style program at miami. What with all the signing bonuses, the million dollar salaries, etc.

True. But even JJ failed at Miami (Dolphins).
I don't know why any coach would even want to go to the NFL. Must be the money!

I would take 9 million.
But, really, what can you buy for 9 million that you can't buy for 3.5 (with a 3.5 million bonus)

Exactly. I heard former Aggie great, Greg Hill say the other day that if you put $3 million in the bank, you can spend $15k a month for the rest of your life and never touch your original money. I could live off that.

What about Barry Switzer? He won a Super Bowl.

yes, good call.
He also ran an NFL program at OU.
Come to think of it, Big Game Bob probably runs an NFL program as well.

Maybe Stoops should wait until the Dallas job opens up. Looks like that is the path to greatness for former college coaches.

I think you are right. Jerry is the man that made them successful. Riiiiiigggggggggghhhhhhtttttttt I wish he would leave, but I seriously doubt he will. As y'all have already pointed out the difference in salaries is not near as much as it used to be. I guess it just depends on the type of guy Stoops is. Is he happy being one of the top dogs at the second level or does he want to be the best in all of football.
