What do y'all think?
I would have to say a mountable bass is a lot harder to catch than a mountable buck is to shoot. But that may not be all there is to it.
Let's hear it.

I will abstain from voting but I will agree that a fish is harder and generally takes more "hunting" skill...in my opinion. However, I am more impressed with a buck head than a fish. Plus, the deer has more practical uses...anyone ever heard of using bass meat in spaghetti? Neither have I.
Why do those things take so long to mount? My dad finally got a call last week from the guy mounting his head...he shot it over two years ago. Did he just go to a bad taxadurmist?

wow, that does seem like a long time.
Your reasoning is what I was talking about...the actual catch/shooting may not be all there is to consider.

Catching something you can't see is harder than sitting in a blind, putting out food, and waiting for it to walk by. Now, if you actually track the deer, that's another story. If you're talking stalking against fishing, I'd call it a push.

The fish is more impressive.
Most hunters I know run deer feeders and have deer stands that resemble a hotel. They more or less raise the deer by feeding it all year just like a FFA kid and his prize bull at the Fat Stock Show. Weak.

I think he wired it with electricity too. Like I've always said...he's not hunting...he's waiting.

I don't hunt like that. And it's a lot more than just sitting and waiting for them. They don't go to the same places all the time. And whether there's a feeder there or not, you only see the same few bucks every now and then in a season. These are usually the dumb ones with half a rack or something, cause he got his ass kicked by daddy back in the woods. The big boys cover a lot of ground and usually stay hidden.
I think it comes down to what you consider mountable. To me, I got lucky and caught a 10 lb bass when I was 13. Got it mounted back then.
When I was 21, I shot my first mountable buck (10 points). Another 'lucky' instance. No feeder involved, but he walked right out in front of me for about a 20 yard shot.
Then the euro mount from last year...The more I look at it, the more impressive it looks. I think I'm more proud of the deer.

I don't fish much, though. And I know less people catch 10-plus size bass than shoot 10-plus point deer. So, I'd have to say the fish is harder to get.
A huge deer on the wall is a thing of beauty though. And typically, there's a lot of stories to go along with one mount that lead up to the eventual shooting. Some people hunt 10+ years before they get one to be proud of. Or even their entire lives.

Well, MOST people fish their whole lives and never catch a 10+ lb bass. They are a rarity. The stories are every bit as good with the fishing as they are with the hunting.
I understand your points...a big ole buck does look good on the wall.

I know...I think once I start fishing more, I'll change my point of view. It's much more difficult to find that huge bass.
Here's another thing to throw in the mix. If it's a bull elk...now that is the biggest prize. Those things are the best trophy you can get.

the fish is definitely more of a challenge. I've never even come close to a 10 lb. bass and probably never will. I think they both have their strong points but I think the buck has a slight edge because of the way it looks. It's huge and striking. The fish is obviously smaller and can't really stand out as much. Plus, I don't like the way a mounted bass looks really. I know there's no way around it, but the way they do it looks cheap and lacks personality - almost stock looking.
