It's a whitetail...Mule deer are uglier with bigger ears and narrower antlers.

thos hill country deer are a helluva lot bigger than those north texas deer. That's an incorrect statement sir. I'm out to prove it right now.

These are Boone and Crockett (record scoring system for rifle) entries in the US by geographic region from the 1800's to 2000's. If you scroll through, you'll see north central texas has much more entries than the hill country these days. www.boone-crockett.org/pdf/geographicwhiteail.pdf

That article doesn't say that North Texas is better. By the maps it looks like they are pretty even with the Hill Country having a slight edge.

Sully, you're talking about North Central Texas. Fisher was talking about North Texas. The only noteworth deer in North Texas are in Cooke and Grayson Counties and that's really far north Texas. NC TX is really around Eastland, Erath, Palo Pinto, Taylor Jones, Stephens, Baylor, Coke...around those parts. Generally anywhere within a tank of gas from Abilene. My Dad's place is in Eastland County in between Cisco and Putnam. And I think the figures you're trying to use are just ones that have been entered. There are some places in the Hill Country that have so many deer that they are largely ignored. Many are in rural pockets of urban development that have game restrictions.

I was talking about North Texas - where I'm from. All along the Red River...even around the lake.
Bigger deer. I promise you that. There are much more in the hill country, but they are smaller.

maybe so...I wouldn't know for sure. But the reputations and hunters of each area disagree with you.

Ok dammit. I'm talking about the Rolling Plains, rather than North Texas.
