Big XII Rumblings

I'm hearing that the Big 10 is looking to add another school to give them 12 institutions and apparently the frontrunners are Syracuse, Rutgers, and Missouri. I think Missouri would be the best fit. It makes geographical sense. Has a pretty good academic reputation and has a fairly consistent athletic program. Mizzoo also has one of the best if not the best broadcast journalism departments in the country. It would also put a team right in between the KC and STL markets. Rutgers has NY but, in all honesty, I don't think New Yorkers outside of the DAC care too much about college football.

So, if Misery leaves, who fills their position? I've heard that Arkansas would be the Big XII's first choice but would they leave the SEC? Mike? I'm sure they'd love the opportunity to play TU, A&M, Baylor, and Tech again but they have it pretty good right where they're at. Plus, they'd probably have to be in the north which wouldn't make a good replacement for LSU, Auburn, and Alabama each year.

So, with that being said, would TCU be the second choice? I know Baylor fans would hate it but I think the Big XII would love to have a team in the DFW area. It's headquarters are literally right across the street from me. ***BTW, I'm sending my resume over there in the next day or two. Fisch, you will be a reference***

I know it's not likely but not out of the realm of possibility. If you care, read the Baylor message board. They are clamouring for UTEP. UTEP. Yeah, I said UTEP. Some of their lines or reasoning are pretty hilarious. Their other suggestion is BYU. Think about that...a bunch of back-woods baptists inviting a bunch of mormons to come prosteletize their land. That would be hilarious.

But that's what I think...I care about you think. When I come back from the break, I'll be taking some Big Twelve phoneage...

First...I don't see Mizzou going to the Big 10. Mizzou would lose $$, and recruiting power (Texas). Why leave a superior conference to go to a weaker one?

as for Arkansas:

Arkansas would lose WAAAAAY too much money going to the Big 12 and Arkansas is all about that bottom line. The powers that be on the hill have decided to run things up there like a giant WalMart. They are more interested in customers than true fans.

Geographically and culturally it would be a great fit. Since Broyles and the money folks in northwest Arkansas (WalMart) have given the virtual finger to the rest of the state by abandoning Little Rock(which I hate to see); those hillbillies have more in common with Missouri/Kansas/Oklahoma/Nebraska than anyone in the SEC. If Arkansas were put in the North division it would also mean they would go to the championship game on a regular basis due to the weaker competition (a situation Nutt would love). Playing in Texas would also do great things for recruiting and satisfy the Hogfans that actually have decent jobs (those living in Texas).

Personally...I would love to see the Big 12 boot Baylor and Iowa State and add Arkansas and TCU.

I think Mizzou would be seduced by the tradition and prestige. I don't think they'd be any more or less competitive. The Big 10 has a better TV package.

They'd (Mizzou) have to give up some pretty intense rivalries with Kansas and Nebraska. Can't see that happening.

Ok, my thoughts:

Mizzou wouldn't go. They have a good chance to win the north every year and also have too much tradition with the north schools. Also, they lose texas as far as recruiting goes.

If they did leave, however, I bet that TCU would be the replacement. They have been a consistent program and have HUGE history with the south teams.

Baylor will never be kicked out of the conference. They are competitive in a lot of other sports (chickball, baseball, tennis, soccer, eventually basketball, softball).

Arkansas, if they were smart, would jump at the chance to return to the part of the country where their roots are. They could revamp some old rivalries and actually win a conference championship every few years. They would be in the title game nearly every year. They don't fit in the SEC like they would in the Big 12. But, alas, I don't think you can financially make sense out of that move. the SEC is too rich.


Here is what will actually happen IMHO: nada.

I don't think girl's b-ball and soccer are going to get it done. I think if Texas or Texas A&M didn't object the Big 12 would love to dump them...Baylor would be playing SMU, UNT, and Southwest Texas in the Lone Star Conference.

If you want to read some really dumb people...go to Baylor's board. They are now championing UNT as a better fit than TCU! Now that's comedy!

I never realized they did so much in Texas. They have 15 players on the roster from Texas.

Ask ANY college coach in a major conference and he will tell you texas is a key...you don't have to sign your whole class from here, but they want to sneak in and steal a skill kid or two every year. Of those 15 they have, look what positions they play. Most will be QB,RB,DB,LB,DE,TE.
