So we double-dated with the Mikes the other night and went to see Bernie. This could easliy now be my favorite move of all-time. O Brother Where Art Thou might be in trouble. I can't think of another actor who was more perfect for a role than Jack Black was for Bernie. What an amazing performance. If he doesn't get an Oscar nod then something is wrong with the process. I highly recommend seeing it...if you can. The only places around us showing it were in Grapevine and Burleson. If it's still playing next weekend I just may go see it again.

I'll have to check it out. I read that article in Texas Monthly about it.

Yeah, I saw that too. That's what got me interested in it. Skip and the other guy did a really good job with the screenplay.

I remember here a while back talking about this with some of my friends who live on Lake Murvaul.
This happened right down the road from them.
I was not aware they were making a movie about it.
I'll have to check it out.

I've seen it twice.....AWESOME!!!! DB- Yes, the Vernon's lived out in that addition, as did I. Wildwood Estates is what it's called. I also taught music at vacation bible school with Bernie when I was in high school, I went to FUMC Carthage. Danny Buck Davidson is one of THE most crooked politicians on the planet, but I liked what the movie did with his character.

Sully if you're not being facetious...
Was a guy in Carthage who was a mortician, befriended an old, rich, bitchy, hag, became basically her personal assistant, and who knows what else. Went on like that for a couple years, one day she was being a bitch, he snapped, shot her, and stuffed her in her deep freezer in her garage, where she stayed for 9 months.
Danny Buck Davidson is the crooked district attorney in Carthage who tried him, everyone liked Bernie so much they had to move the trial because after several weeks Danny Buck couldn't even put together a jury that would consider convicting him, everyone liked him too much.
The movie is by Rich Linklater, same guy that did Dazed and Confused. Very well done, and Jack Black is awesome.
If you are being facetious, then disregard and bite me. Hard to tell if you guys are really asking questions sometimes or being smartasses. LOL

Skip Hollandsworth from Texas Monthly co-wrote the screenplay. He originally covered the story back in the 90s.
