Well he isn't a stepdad anymore cause he has since left that woman. He is such a spare and it fires me up listening to him on the radio. For some reason I listen to people to piss me off cause I like to yell back at the tv or radio.

Whoever that guy is he is a douche bag of the highest order and I hope his step-son, which is nothing like your own child, turns into an alcoholic and kills him in a drunken rage. Well put Doyle, I couldn't agree more. That guy is a douchebag of the highest order.

He aired his dirty laundry on the air about a year ago. Sure, she was a slut but that shit needed to be kept to himself.

Interesting responses about the Colby paternity leave. Just curious, does your job allow you a week off when your wife has a baby? What if an everyday player such as Adrian Beltre takes a week off for paternity leave during the playoffs or the World Series...are you guys cool with that?

Many companies are required to give paternity leave if it is wanted, however I think it is usually unpaid. When Landry was born I was left work for a week which was unpaid. I think it would be fine for a position player to take a leave. However, I think during a highly important time like the playoffs or World Series there might need to be a more strict guideline (like maybe just one day missed). This is just because it is the most important time for the team or business. But I don't have a problem with a pitcher missing one start. It may be different if a position player missed an entire week I guess. I just look a the big picture as being in the shoes of a player who wants to be with his new born child. I understand some opposing views but Richie Whitt's opinions were ridiculous and his defense for said opinions were stupid. Any other worker in any business would get to leave work to be with their wife while she was in labor. Just because he is in a business that is in the public eye shouldn't make it any different.

Interesting, how much society has changed in 20 years. Not saying it's wrong or right but I think I took 1 day off when my kid was born 21 years ago. Seemed to be the norm way back in 1990.

Well I'll argue with this: The difference is that a normal person can take one day off to be there for the birth of the child, go back to work the next day, and came home from work every night and get to be with the kid and take care of anything. Colby would have had to fly home catch the birth and fly back for his start. (I guess a pitcher could have flown back again after his start though) Its different for these guys that are on long road trips. Plus, you are right, times have changed in the past 20 years. There are more stay-at-home dads too these days. (which may not directly reflect the situation).

I'm taking 2 weeks off for ours. I'm using vacation time. I'm not sure what I'd do if I was a professional athlete. Probably not take 2 weeks. Plan to have the kid in the offseason maybe? I don't care what they do.

This is definitely a new trend, but I think I might have one reason why. Even 21 years ago, it was much more common for kids to still live close to their parents. More and more now young adults are moving away from their hometowns, so the grandparents aren't as big a part of the raising the child as they used to be, thus the need for the husband to be there more. I have no factual data what so ever to back this up, just a observation that could be completely wrong.

If I were to have a kid on a Friday during football season I would more than likely not miss the game assuming the kid is being born in the morning or early PM.
If the kid is born during the week, I would probably miss one whole day and be back at work the next day if it was in football season.
There is absolutely no way I would be allowed to take more than 2 or 3 days off even if it was the offseason. It just depends on your job, I think.
Finch, that is a really good theory.
I think missing one start is no big deal. If he was a position player I would expect him to miss no more than 1-2 games.

I guarantee you if Julie was in labor on a Friday they would allow you to miss a game.

I don't think you get it.
If she is in labor during the game, then yes, I would miss it.
If she already has the baby, and both mother and child are safe then I would go to the game.
That part isn't about being allowed to. Leaving the hospital for 4 hrs isn't going to be that big of a deal. We had a coach do that very thing 2 years ago.
I was born on a Friday morning and my dad coached in the game that night. I don't feel slighted.
