Todd Dodge can get the hell out. I'll admit I was excited when he came but I was really scared of him bringing all his high-school coaches with him. Obviously it didn't work and do any of you guys see north texas actually getting some good coaches in here and at least making us competitive?
I don't mean Texas good but maybe a program that can beat the SMU's and Baylor's of the world. Like we did when Dickey was here.

Word on the street is a defensive backs coach from a high school in Mansfield, Texas has been contacted for the opening.

A couple of things...
Dodge didn't get out coached, he got out recruited. Plain and simple.
North Texas has never been on a level that Baylor or SMU are at right now. They just need to get to a point where they can compete in their conference, then worry about making the next step.
Here is a name for you (pure speculation on my part):
Dennis Franchione

I was wondering when Sully would pull the trigger.
As far as Dodge goes, in the words of CJMF; "It aint the x's and o's, it's the Johnny's and Joe's".
How about Mike Leach?

I thought of Leach too, but I think he can get a better job than North Texas...Think Minnesota type of job.

No one had experience recruiting at that level. I have no respect for Villarel or whatever his name is. Leach would never come here and I don't blame him. One of our biggest problems is support from the students. I would hate to admit it but we have a bunch of douche-bags at North Texas and I mean more than normal.

I don't think a guy that will come to North Texas really cares about student support.
Its either going to be an up and comer who is using North Texas as a stepping stone or its going to be an older guy trying to get his career turned back around.
Both are good routes to go. They'll both be hungry and driven to succeed. I'd lean more towards the up and comer, but most AD's like the comfort of a "name" guy like Franchione.

This experiment went awefully wrong and set the program back several years going into new facilities.
Villareal is an idiot of the highest order.

They fired the best coach they've had since Hayden Fry. That was stupid. All he did was win the conference 4 years in a row and take them to bowl games. Did he all of a sudden forget how to coach? Programs cycle down, and I'm sure Dickey would have had NT back winning the sun belt by now. Where Dodge went wrong is that he didn't understand how to recruit. He needed to bring in a recruiting coordinator (I would have done it ) that could lay out a plan of how to recruit in the state of Texas. They were completely lost the first year and have been trying to catch up every since then. Briles did it the right way. He was an assistant for 2 years to learn how the game of recruiting works.

Did Dickey get fired? I thought he retired because of health problems? In fact didn't he have a stroke the last year he was at North Texas or am I making all this up?
Yeah letting him go was stupid of the utmost pretense.

they fired him.
It was a bad deal. In fact, the biggest donor to UNT athletics (Mattress Mac of Gallery Furniture in Houston) was so pissed that he threatened to withdraw his multi million dollar donation for the new facility unless they named it the "Darrell Dickey Athletic Center."

Heard that too. Dickey lived down the street from me and everyday I would drive by I would see him smoking in his garage. That probably didn't help his health.
