www.810whb.com/article/3531The Big Ten Conference has extended initial offers to join the league to four universities including Missouri and Nebraska from the Big 12, according to multiple sources close to the negotiations. What does this mean for the Big 12? How about the Froggies? How about that proposed Pac 10/Big 12 merger? things is changing.

Just read it on the Tulsa World too. Not sure what it means. I just know that Tech, Baylor, and TCU better beef up their lobbying budget.
I really hate all this superconference talk. I think it will ruin college football. It's already put a bad taste in my mouth.

I think it will be great for college football. I can see why you would think that though

This will be very interesting to say the least, if a Big 12 team leaves the conference will be a lame duck. $Bill better be on the phone with a back up plan if this happens.

I don't hate it just for the fact that there's a strong possibility that TCU will get left out in the cold but also for the fact that you could end up with 5 16-team conferences who will throw a finger to the NCAA and create their own division. What happened in the SWC in the 80s as far as cheating goes will not only become commonplace but will be encouraged. There's no evidence to support the notion that the conferences will police themselves and it will essentially become NFL, Jr.

You would make a strong point Stubbs if not for the fact that the NCAA is one of the most useless organizations in the country. Maybe if they had gotten their act together at some point this wouldn't be on the verge of happening, but instead they sat around doing nothing thinking the problem would fix itself.
Also, if this does happen (which I'm still not sure that it will), I have to give a big tip of the cap to Fischer. He predicted something almost identical to this about 6 or 7 years ago. Nice work sir.

That did enter my mind and it felt kind of silly even siding with the NCAA. The NCAA is the UN of amatuer sports...that and the IOC. The NCAA at least gives the impression of a small shred of accountability.

Agree. The death of the NCAA would only help college football.

My blind hog prediction is 4 Big 12 teams will be approached by the SEC.
TU Aggie OU OSU
or
TU Aggie Baylor TT
Let me hear from ya!

I think TU, Aggie, and OU will be approached. OU won't go because the State legislature won't allow them to leave without OSU. The SEC would rather have FSU and Miami or GT. The B12 will be left with OU, OSU, TT, Gaylor, K-State, Kansas, and ISU. Colorado will go to the Pac 37. What they do from there is anyone's guess. I think BYU will be their first choice. From there you'll see TCU and Houston. SMU and Rice are a definate no and will stay in CUSA. I've heard CSU might be a choice but they might lack something athletically and academically to be a legit contender. The other logical choices would be what's left of the MWC but, again, you'd end up with severely inferior academic institutions with inferior athletic programs. I'm sure People of Wal-Mart State will be knocking at the door but I'm sure they'll be shut out. Whatever happens, it looks like the B12 will probably be left as a second-tier conference. I'm sure OU will try like hell to get into the SEC but I doubt the conference wants OSU.
I think this will create severe instability and chaos in the realm of collegiate athletics. Does anyone remember how unstable the 16-team WAC was? A 16-team SEC will be quite different from what the WAC was but it will still present it's own share of instability.
Chew on this nugget...the Big XII has copyrighted the Big XIV.
