we have a freshman that benched 350.
My point was that he WAS NOT MAXING. He was doing a normal workout. It wasn't the weight. The bar just slipped.
It could have been 205 and the same result could have occurred.

But how did the bar slip? In all my time in a weight room I have never seen a bar just slip. I've seen people do more weight than they should and injure themselves; but I doubt the weight was the issue.
The only conclusion I can come to is that there was some jacking around (maybe someone farted when he was trying to go up) or he was being careless at the end of a workout and fatigue got the best of him.

I have seen weights slip on quite a few occassions. Its definitely not rare. I have just never seen someone drop it on their throat.
I seriously doubt he was jacking around. I don't think you quite understand what a football weight workout at a D1 school ( or a good high school for that matter) entails.
its not a baseball workout.

It's not that rare for someone to drop the bar, it is rare for it to fall on their throat. I myself have dropped the bar on my stomach. Of course I didn't have anything close to 275 on there so I came out ok. |

The strength and conditioning coaches said themselves they do not know how it fell on his throat. It was a freak accident for sure.
