On a related note; my favorite football coach likes to play up the fact that he has players in the NFL. What he doesn't mention is that at least three of them play different positions than they played in college.
George Wilson---played WR at Arkansas---starts at DB for Buffalo Jason Peters---played TE at Arkansas---starts at OT for Buffalo Matt Jones---played QB at Arkansas---plays WR at Jacksonville
Were these guys coached up in the NFL or were they in the wrong positions in college?

Judging by the positions they play now, I would say they were coached up in the NFL. All of those position changes are common for college kids with good not great talent going to the NFL. Hines Ward, Antwan Randal El, Ceneca(sp?) Wallace all played QB in college and now play WR in the NFL. Put 40 lbs on a college tight end and he is a very quick OT in the NFL. Take a WR with decent speed and good size and he will be a better DB. I'm no coach, but I can see a correlation in the positions. Now if you had a DT become a WR, then yes, that is bad coaching.

They must do some fast coaching in that NFL since each was moved to his new position as soon as they got to camp.

that happens every year.
the nfl is a different league. The offenses are different, the defenses are different. The game is much faster and the players much better. There is less disparity, meaning there is less room for a QB like Jones, who wasn't a great QB but a great athlete. In college he made things happen. In the NFL he would get murdered.
this happens on every level change. Jr-hs hs-college college-nfl

In Jones situation; what if a starting NFL QB was also on the team and Jones still played QB? Why wouldn't a coach be able to see this and play both guys?

because sometimes the best playmakers in college are not NFL players. Just like in High school. the best player isn't always the one that gets recruited.
Matt Jones was a special college player. He was in the correct position.
I know you hate HDN, but you have to give him this one...he didn't screw this up.
