Actually Kinsler was charged with an error. The actual scoring should be an error on the catcher. You can't award mental errors. Kinsler may have actually gone to the scorer afterwards and told him it was his fault. At that time it will be at the scorer's discretion to change the scoring. It's happened before. Juando once threatened a scorer after a game to change an error he was awarded.

If a runner is stealing second the catcher makes that throw as long as all the other bases are not occupied. You have to trust your infielder will be there. The throw is made while the infielder is getting into position to cover. The catcher doesn't have time to wait until the infielder sets up. COME ON! I understand what you're saying but it falls along the same lines as the assumption of a double play. You just can't do it.

Yesterday the scorer gave the error to Young. I guess they changed it and charged it to Kinsler.
The point is that it's not the catchers' fault. That's why the fielder was given the error.

I agree. The catcher is taught to throw it. Someone should be there.
I am sure coach stubbs will disagree.

However, all scoring is at the discretion of the scorer. I'm just stating what the rules are. If you throw to an unmanned base, you are given an error.

I rest my case.

From the MLB rulebook:
10.12 Errors An error is a statistic charged against a fielder whose action has assisted the team on offense, as set forth in this Rule 10.12. (a) The official scorer shall charge an error against any fielder: . . .
8) whose failure to stop, or try to stop, an accurately thrown ball permits a runner to advance, so long as there was occasion for the throw. If such throw was made to second base, the official scorer shall determine whether it was the duty of the second baseman or the shortstop to stop the ball and shall charge an error to the negligent fielder.
Now, I rest my case.

I just now read it. I've been trying to catch up on the general forum. This is the last one I check. I won't admit defeat yet.
